Document scanner with auto-feed

I'm looking to scan a huge amount of one-sided B/W docs and am looking for a scanner that can do it reasonably fast, without breaking the bank.

I'm not exactly sure what price point I'm looking at, so recommendations for different pricing categories, along with a short explanation of what I would get over the next lower pricing category, would be greatly appreciated 🙂

The only requirement is that it be able to scan straight into multi-page PDFs with lossless compression. OCR is not needed. I am mainly interested in speed and the sturdiness/reliability of the machine.

Thanks!

This looks pretty nice, and the reviews are fairly assuring. However, I have one more question:

What makes a dedicated scanner like the Fujitsu suggested "better" than, say, a HP OfficeJet 7210,
which seems to boast equal if not better scanning specs?

For one thing, the HP prescan time is 28 sec per page so I doubt it could even scan 3 different originals per minute - they offer no specs for scan speed of different originals. Copy speed (claimed 20 CPM) is not related to scanning time (it is scan one original and print 20 copies of it - more related to print speed than scan speed).

But it's nowhere near the 15 PPM scan speed of the Fujitsu - which means 15 different b/w originals at 300 dpi. You'd have to call HP to see if they even have that spec available for that AIO. I DLed the HP PDF on that unit and there was no such spec in there either.

Thanks, that makes a lot of sense. The only HP scanjet in the sub $500 range only does 8 ppm.

I'm going with the Fujitsu.
