Doctors that require you to call back for EVERY appointment

So the dentist I have apparently requires you to either answer their call or call them back to confirm your appointment the next day. Has anyone else ever run into this? Appointment reminders are one thing but requiring a response?

Dentists usually book your next appointment 6 months in advance, I can see why they want to call you to remind your ass to show up. If there's no response to the reminder they will assume you didn't get it/and or forgot completely.

i've never had that, but i can completely understand why they'd want that. lots of people cancel or forget or something comes up last minute and the dentist could schedule in new patients during that block of time that you didn't show up.

Yeah, but I have had at least 8 appointments in the last 10 months (uggg), so it is not like they don't know. Also, they call the day before during working hours. So I have to call them from work today in order to confirm since my appointment tomorrow is right when they open.

For the destist, they'll call 3 days in advance, and attempt to reach you again if the first call fails. Works perfectly fine and I've had a few "What? Oh..." moments.

Very common practice but it's also common for them to charge you a 50-100% of the fee if you don't show up or cancel under 24 hours.

I've had that happen, and I didn't call back. I can't imagine they'd cancel my appointment if I didn't return their appt. reminder call, and they didn't.
