The problem with sharp sticks is that it's way too easy to kill someone. I wouldn't be able to kill someone with a rock but with a stick, I'm sure I can easily kill someone. Think about it, it's just darn eay to kill someone with a sharp stick.

The problem with guns is that it's way too easy to kill someone. I wouldn't be able to kill someone with a knife but with a gun, I'm sure I can easily kill someone. Think about it, it's just darn eay to kill someone with a gun.

Yet according to FBI statistics people are more likely to survive being shot than being stabbed. Not sure if I can still find that particular link, it has been a couple of years since they let that out of the bag.

I've used steak knives at restauranted before that have a rounded end, but work just as well as any other knife.

They're not asking to ban all knives, just those that end in a sharp point. Think about it - you do all your cutting on the edge, not on the tip. Like the article pointed out, if you do need a pointed knife, it's usually for carving or pairing, which only requires a very short blade.

so basically, when something outlives it usefulness it's time to ban it? Oh, I understand you live in England, but if you ever get a chance to visit the NE of America you will find many people who still use firewood to heat their homes.

This call for the ban on long pointy kitchen knives is moronic in the extreme. How long does a knife have to be to pierce the carotid artery? One or two inches? What next a law to only allow sharp knives to a maximum length of half inch? No sharp knives at all? These ban happy morons seem to forget that criminals by their very nature don't obey the law.
So long pointy kitchen knives are gone, what next? The criminals will move on to the next readily available item they can get hold of to hurt people with. I guess you will then have to ban that as well. Screwdrivers, hammers, knitting needles, chisels, sticks, rocks, a ban on anything hard and over a certain weight?
All banning does is remove it from the hands of the law abiding people it does nothing to stop the criminals having them or using them.

And don't even think about defending yourself against the criminals. Your expected to just let the scum do as they wish. Just ask Tony Martin about that.
