David Tennant Quits!

David Tennant is to stand down as Doctor Who, after becoming one of the most popular Time Lords in the history of the BBC science fiction show.

Tennant stepped into the Tardis in 2005, and will leave the role after four special episodes are broadcast next year.

He made the announcement after winning the outstanding drama performance prize at the National Television Awards.

"When Doctor Who returns in 2010 it won't be with me," he said.

I don't evnt it to feel like a job, so I want to move on when it still feels exciting and fresh

David Tennant
"Now don't make me cry," he added. "I love this part, and I love this show so much that if I don't take a deep breath and move on now I never will, and you'll be wheeling me out of the Tardis in my bath chair."

Damn, I kinda like Tennant as the Doctor too. No world on who will take over the Doctor Who role in series 5.

How are they supposed to transition to a new Doctor?

They've already ruined the regeneration aspect of things, considering the Doctor now doesn't have to change when he regenerates.

Well, according to Wiki, there's an special episode between now and series 5 premier called "The Next Doctor." So maybe the current Doctor finds another Time Lord and have this guy take over his role as the universal savior. Ok, I got nothing.

Noooooooooooo! 🙁

And they'll just regenerate him, like they always do.

That was a 'special' set of circumstances, not typical at all.

Shame though, I liked Tennant.

I thought Chris Eccelston(sp?) was better than Tennant. However, Tennant did a very good job.
I think they were lucky to have two such good actors and Tennant is leaving before he gets stale.
Looking forward to the New Doctor.

Oh, great! Just what I've always wanted to see: "A Very Special Doctor Who episode."

Will this be the one where the Doctor explains to Tudy why he can't go back and save her dog, Muffin, from that car?

Tom Baker was the Doctor for me growing up...I stopped watching a while until recently (still not a dedicated fan)....

They have gotten a lot better.

There are a lot of easter eggs/recuring themes in the Doctor series that many don't realize/miss.

The Bad Wolf arc finally completed with Rose:

I am the Bad Wolf. I create myself. I take the words. I scatter them ... in time, and space. A message to lead myself here. ?
?Rose Tyler in "The Parting of the Ways".

I actually liked his Doctor more than anyone since Tom Baker. I'm still catching up on Season 3 of the new series.

Bummer, they don't have the hand anymore to save him. I know the 4 episodes were because he was doing other things and couldn't dedicate the time to a full season. Going to miss that eccentricity.

Technically yes, but both RTD and the new show runner have said that it's a stupid limit. When push comes to shove, they'll write it out.

Yes, but I seem to recall that there was rumor and speculation during the original series that The Doctor was actually Rassilon, and had unlimited Regenerations available to him.

Tell me why he can't just funnel the energy into the hand again?

The Brits have the best actors in the world. The casting is superb on the show so I have faith another capable hand will take over.

Tennant will be missed however--big game on his part that he can spin his fame to bigger projects (i.e. movies, US TV)....

That is my only issue w/ the current series :|

I'll miss Tennant, but he was around longer than he "should" have been, best of luck to him in his future endeavors!

Damn, I just finished catching up on the new series, too. Not only do I have to wait until 2010 for a new full season, but now I have to do so with the prospect of Tennant leaving. Boo. Oh well, it isn't like I'm gonna stop watching now.
