It's a bit odd, I've watched the BBC for decades and am a major Sci Fi fan, and just never got into Dr Who.

Even if I just know many things about it from things mentioned on the side.

Have fun 🙂

Guessing from that image that Missy is going to be a bigger part in this season.
Maybe. Missy is the Master after all, although I never did exactly follow how that happened. It might be nice to have a subplot running through the season but that scene seems to be a recap of the last episode in the previous season.

The Clara Show, starring the angry old guy I can't understand without subtitles!

zero excitement, watching it is almost a chore.

almost? how can something grind to a halt yet last 45 minutes? must be time lord technology.

you know it's pathetic when 2 out of 3 main characters are killed and you don't even blink an eye. there are no consequences, therefore no value. there isn't even any logic, just the bbc's life support reveling in its own blue schlock.

Rhetorical question: you + Doctor Who thread = you telling us how much Doctor Who sucks. Why not find a new show or wait until they change actors/producers/writers?

you know, there's such a thing as negative opinion. which cannot be formulated until the person has observed the object of the opinion. which means i need to watch the show to know if it's good or bad. i think i'm entitled to both these things.

first off i've watched every doctor who short of hartnell, and while that doesn't "qualify me to judge doctor who" in any way, i can still say it's my show. so i watched it. and i didn't like it.

second, it's a new season; one could expect they listened to the feedback, a bit. looks like they didn't.

I don't know how many people realize this but this season is going to be all 2-part episodes. So I'm sure there are going to be a lot of situations where somethings aren't going to make sense until the second episode.

As far as Missy and Clara getting offed, doesn't seem weird that the last time we see them before their "death" scenes is out on the ground of Skaro? Either that's some bad continuity or we're missing something. The obvious bet is on the latter.

Another thing that was odd was that Davros recognized the Capaldi doctor both times that he saw him. After the first appearance, I figured that they just didn't want to do the CGI to show an earlier doctor but now that seems to have been intention. Sounds like some timey-wimey going on.

Overall, this episode was certainly puzzling and you really need to read the backstory on Davros to really understand the importance of this confrontation. They do more or less explain what is going on in the episode but it will make more sense if you read the wiki.

Edit: Meh, not going to drag this out since it was a rhetorical question.

Short response: wasn't addressing you. Didn't quote you, didn't mention you. I haven't even noticed you posting anything negative about Doctor Who before.

I just remember stuff like this from 3 years ago and start wondering aloud:

I'm not a Dr Who fan but I do watch occasionally. Seems pretty obvious that they didn't really die in that scene.

They tried to get her to stay but it was impossible.

Rose Leslie, Ygritte, is apparently in the running again. On one hand, she's hot. On the other, we just had two redheads -- Karen Gillan and Catherine Tate -- so I don't know.

Given how public the casting announcements for companions and new Doctors are for this show, ya, that was pretty obvious. Not to mention, it's not the first time they've done something like this. If they did die, I'd be surprised.

I miss those.

New season on its way! 😀

As for this episode, I liked it. I thought the ax(e) scene was funny and out of character for this iteration of the doctor, until he explained why. Thought the snake guy was cool - not sure if that is new or something I've missed in the past.

And well..I like Missy.

Honestly, I don't really get what happened. DVR'd it, going to watch it again tomorrow. Axe/tank scene was interesting.

Every time the snake guy showed up, I couldn't help but think about that new Segway-type rolling thing. He's probably supposed to be hovering, but I've been watching TMZ a lot and that thing shows up like every other day.

The premiere has a lot of possibilities about where the season may lead, but it seems like the entire episode was written for those with extreme attention-deficit. Hey! Look at this cool plot twist....two seconds later....none of that matters anymore!....and two of the co-stars die in a Shakespearean version of "rocks fall, everyone dies".

But, here's my consipiracy theory: The doctor created Davros, who ended up creating the Daleks. This dark side of his has existed in him for quite some time. I think that this is the first step in it ultimately manifesting itslelf in the form of the Valeyard. Yes, it was from the worst era of the Doctor Who universe, but the underlying idea is sound...the doctor must fight the darker impulses that he has and come to a reckoning with that side and his past misdeeds, and not just metaphorically. Literally.

"You're the puppy."

Ahaha, even when Doctor Who is at its mediocre-ist, you can count on it for some great one-liners. Almost tops Capaldi's "A horror movie called Alien? That's racist!"

Overall, I thought it was okay for a season premiere. Took the episode about 30 minutes to really get going.
