Doctor says I'm at high risk for myocardial infarction?

I went to the appt. yesterday. You are absolutely correct. At my current levels he believes that I am a high risk candidate for a heart attack. Quite a sobering talk I had with him. He was pretty ticked at how bad I was eating. I never really took this disease seriously and thought as long as I took my medication things would be ok. Well, I guess not. As far as my eating habits go, I've pledged to make a change in my diet and exercise more than once a week.

Yea my first thought when I read the symptoms was diabetic. But as some have said, diabetes leads to other conditions, including heard disease, heart attack, stroke, liver disease, even cancer.

You need to put more effort into healthy eating, and less weight on insulin. Diabetes can most often be prevented, and/or controlled with a proper diet. Insulin is there as a helping hand. And everyone should be working out several times a week. We haven't evolved fast enough to adjust to our new sedentary lifestyles over the last 75 years.

Good luck.

Weight control is probably the biggest factor. I've know people with type 2 diabetes that went throught the Joslin Clinic and dropped weight. The results were astonishing. After the weight loss, they were no longer diabetic. At least, all progression of the condition stopped and daily management became nothing more than weight management. At least early on, it's the best way to handle it.

You hear that Fatties get with the program!

Man, Type 2 diabetes is no joke. The worse thing about it is you can have it for years and not know it, or in my Mothers case, have it for years, but not feel sick so ignore what the doctor was telling her.

That is until they amputated her left foot, and her kidneys failed and she was put on dialisis for the rest of her life, then she had a minor heart attack, then she had her right leg just below her knee amputated. Then a stroke. then the rest of her left leg to above the knee. Then she decided she was tired of being litterally whittled down and died at 63. This was all in a 6 year period and all directly caused by type 2 diabetes left unchecked.

Sorry to be a bit gloomy, but to any diabetics out there, It's serious stuff.
😱 I had no idea how bad diabetes was

change your diet. go mainly raw vegetarian and go for a long walk everyday; about an hour long walk... build up to it, though.

your doctor probably looked at your crp and your ast and they were both pretty high.

start taking an omega-3 supplement with high dha/epa.

There's something to be said for the people who try to fight their complications as much as possible without medication.

Good luck.

What's your blood pressure btw?

Instead of thanking God, you should be thanking the people who are paying for your recovery.

Really? Grace of god??? If you had that condition in Somalia, you'd be dead.

I'm very grateful that we have Medicaid for this type of situation...I've paid taxes since I was 16 years old,and I'm glad that it's helped everyone else who needs or needed it as well...

I'm grateful for everything I have even if it sucks sometimes like now

It can also damage your peripheral nerves - so you can miss minor injuries. Diabetes also reduces your ability to heal, so if the injuries go untreated they can lead to ulcers. It's possibly why Griffinhart's mother had to have an amputation. Alternatively it could just be because it damages the blood vessels and reduced blood supply can cause problems (it may have destroyed her kindeys for example) it can also lead to retinopathy (which if untreated may result in blindness).

I came back to post this -

To the OP: Ask the doctor to check out your feet, the tingling could be the start of nerve damage...

In my mother's case it was a pervasive build up of plaque in her veins and arteries. It caused reduced blood flow throughout her body. Her feet suffered first, but she ignored any of the warning signs until there was actual pain, and then it was too late. Her kidney problems were a part of the reduced blood flow as well and she did, in fact, have greatly diminished eyesight from the disease as well.

Yep, if not managed, pretty serious stuff. Admittedly, my mother was probably about as bad as it gets when it came to managing it. For years her doctor was threatening to put her on insulin and she dreaded needles. Her solution to that was to find a new doctor and not bring him up to date on her condition.

By the sounds of the mortality rate, unless you get excellent medical attention immediately... you would be dead.

Props to the doctors!

Yep. I make sure to be as kind as possible to them and thank them for everything they've done every chance I get....they come and check on me everyday... I was septic with a blood pressure of 50 over 30...when I arrived unconscious thankfully my Gf brought me to the local hospital who sent me here ... to this hospital in Dallas...now my vitals are stable, 4 of 6 wounds have been closed the surgeon told me this morning we are shooting for a week from friday when ill have my last operatipn besides the one tomorrow which is just a debribement.

Sounds like lupus to me.

Kidding.

What's your HDL and exercise routine?

Me? My hands and legs hurt because I'm at a desk too much. My vision's blurry because I'm old. Trying to stave off dunlop disease. Left knee's a whiney bitch when the weather changes. Yah football and 3 surgeries. Male pattern baldness, etc, etc. At least I don't have E.D......yet.

Must be a tumor. Think we can get a good deal on the plots if we go together?

It's never lupus though
