Doctor gets 5 years for road rage against cyclists

I am a biker. If I deliberately dragged this doctor out of his car and kicked his teeth out, smashed his nose in, and separated his shoulder, I would have to go to prison too, as should he. I don't see why him doing it with a car should give him any lighter sentence. He purposefully wanted to get rear ended, and I have a feeling this guy is gonna get rear ended a lot in the next 5 years. 🙂

You would think reading the OP as well as the article would be sufficient

It doesn't include this

Peterson testified Thursday that he and Stoehr were riding side by side toward Sunset Boulevard about 30 mph. After a car honked behind them, Peterson said, he pulled in front of Stoehr. The car passed them, missing his handlebars by less than a foot, he said.

Peterson said Thompson yelled for the pair to "ride single-file." Peterson said he screamed an expletive at Thompson, who then swerved in front of the cyclists and "slammed on the brakes" to a complete stop.

In a split second, Peterson said, he crashed through the car window and was "bleeding profusely, laying on the trunk."

BTW, it is not automatically the case that if you rear end someone you are automatically at fault, especially if they are acting negligently or worse, like this case, deliberately, and it can be proven. People have gotten convicted of very serious charges when they deliberately caused serious accidents to defraud insurance companies.

Sounds like this Peterson guy is one of those biker assholes. But Thomson proved himself to be just as big of an asshole.
Thanks for this post, I was wondering what had provoked such a harsh reaction from Thomson.

AND why the eff were they not riding single file in the first place? Seems very selfish and ignorant to be riding in the middle of the road and then yell expletives at people that tell 'em to move over. amirite?

EDIT: and where is Safeway? hes usually first to post in these threads.

If I was biking responsibly and some guy almost clipped me with his mirror, then yelled at me, I'd probably tell him to fuck off too.

I was also wondering about Safeway.

Some cyclist are douchebags and want to talk to the other riders. Other cyclist are tired of nearly being run off the road when riding single file, so they force cars to pass in the left lane.

Here in TN they have signs out that say '3ft, it's the law'. So if you have to give cyclist 3ft then you have to go into the oncoming lane, so not really a big deal if they ride 2X.

The article in the OP doesn't say they were following him. Link to the article you're reading that says they were? I assumed that the guy passed them then immediately pulled in front of them and hit the brakes, but the article doesn't say.

If that is indeed the case. Screw him. Glad he got that sentence.

fvcking idiot. I love how people get into some mode where they stop seeing cyclists as fellow humans and just some irritation and they do silly sh*t like this. Fvck that man, prison will be great fun for him. I hope her cherishes it.

He did purposesly swerve in front of them and slam the breaks on, which makes the punishment seem legit.
I was thinking if the bicyclists just couldn't stop in time, then tough $hit, but this seems deliberate.
Taht being said, bicyclists in general seem to want to best of both worlds nowadays. They want to be "part of traffic" and treated the same as cars, yet they blow through stop signs or ride illegally when it suits them right.....they are overall very annoying here in the Bay Area.

Honestly, I think bike lanes are the way to go. We have bike lanes on many of the roads here in SoCal and they really help by giving cyclists a dedicated portion of the road. It still doesn't stop stupid people from doing stupid things but I think it's a good compromise and one that more states should follow.

Why motorists get so fucking impatient behind the wheel so as to disregard the life of another human being is beyond me. I don't give a shit where you're going or why, it's not more important than my life...or anyone elses.

They had the entire sidewalk to ride on until stupid goverment assholes made that illegal in my town. I stopped riding my bike when it became law that I had to ride on the road.

I don't like riding on sidewalks. Pedestrians with children and dogs are even more unpredictable than cars. I've hit 48mph on my road bike going downhill...doing that on a sidewalk would be downright crazy.

So.. a 160lb person on a bike hitting a pedestrian on the sidewalk VS a several ton car hitting a person on a bike..

I'd rather ride on a sidewalk. And as a person on foot, I'd just watch out for bikers.

Going 48 on a bike is pretty crazy. I generally trust that my $20,000 car is going to stop but I'm not too certain about this $150 bike I got at Walmart.

I grew up riding on sidewalks so it just feels natural to me.

This kind of shit is sickening.

He did not get long enough IMO.

Trash like this should have their license revoked permanently, & be forced to cycle excessively as part of their sentence.

I'm against bikes being allowed on roads, but since they are, they need to be treated with care. Yes, it's true that I've never seen a cyclist even attempt to obey traffic laws, but that's no reason to hurt them. If this guy was trying to teach them a lesson, he deserves a special schooling all his own, and he's going to get it.
