Doctor gets 5 years for road rage against cyclists

If the article that Ns1 is true, 5 years is too short, he could have easily kill the bikers for a rash dicision.

I would have given that doctor a medal. Anyone who has driven in Manhattan, and watched these jackasses drive all over the street, when they have a thick bike lane + moved sidewalks, will agree with me.

I'd have less rage if these idiots were required to have insurance.

As an former emergency room physician I think 5 years was letting him off easy. The man knows all too well what can happen in the case of car vs human, and should be sentenced harsher with this in mind. Playing games and teaching people "lessons" with a car, a deadly weapon, is childish and shows a serious lack of judgment, common sense, and concern for his fellow man. I think 5 years is just barely enough to teach him a lesson.

Try not to paint all bikers with the same brush. Most of the problem bikers are delivery guys, not people going to work or exercising. I biked to work in Manhattan for years, though 99% of my commute was down the west side bike path. I've also driven in Manhattan for years and know how bad drivers in NYC are, mostly due to stress from the traffic, but that's not an excuse to drive recklessly.

Because I want to read the article that gives more information about the incident. If the cyclists were following the guy it would change my opinion. If you're following someone it's your responsibility to leave adequate stopping distance.

Edit: Based on what NS1 said it appears that my original assumption about the incident was correct. Now I'm wondering why the LA Times is reporting one thing while Lupi, Matthiasa, Kadarin and ScottyB read something entirely different.

It's STILL brake-checking...and I've read many replies on these boards in tailgating threads where people think passing someone then brake-checking is fine.

A driver swerves around another car, intentionally slams on his brakes and then admits to the responding police officer that he was "teaching the other driver a lesson." That would be the victim's fault? Are you serious?

The cyclists were not following the car. The doctor passed the cyclists, then intentionally cut in front of them and stopped.

I fucking hate cyclics in Boston. They blow through stop signs, red lights, cut around people who are in their cars making turns. I seriously wish they would ban bicycles from the road.

I respect cyclists and feel they have a right to the road, however the ones in boston really give a bad name to all the ones out there that follow the rules, im sure NYC is the same way

as a biker and a driver easily frustated from idiot bikers i totally understand both sides. until you've been in an accident on a bicycle you really have no idea how exposed and fragile you are from cars, pavement, etc. if they cracked down on that dr thats great but they should also crack down on these idiot cyclists that give curb huggers like me a bad name. 😛
