I would have given that doctor a medal. Anyone who has driven in Manhattan, and watched these jackasses drive all over the street, when they have a thick bike lane + moved sidewalks, will agree with me.
I'd have less rage if these idiots were required to have insurance.
<-- had car hit by a biker who was riding the wrong way, through a red light, through a corner. If the police hadn't witnessed this moron breaking all kinds of law, I'd have probably been sued.
Why are you repeating the same thing? We already read this.
As an former emergency room physician I think 5 years was letting him off easy. The man knows all too well what can happen in the case of car vs human, and should be sentenced harsher with this in mind. Playing games and teaching people "lessons" with a car, a deadly weapon, is childish and shows a serious lack of judgment, common sense, and concern for his fellow man. I think 5 years is just barely enough to teach him a lesson.
Waidaminit....I thought most of ATOT thought brake-checking was ok...seems like many/most of you support that as a means of dealing with tailgaters...how is this really any different?
Even though I've had to experience douch-bag bicyclists myself over the years, what the guy did was wrong. Plain and simple.
B/c it wasn't just brake checking. This asshole deliberately drove past them so that he could get in front to brake check them.
Interesting. If you did this in a car, the person who rear ended you would be liable regardless.
If people who ride bikes are required to follow the rules of the road, it sounds like they did not allow enough distance between them and the car.
Hopefully the doctor will appeal his sentence and it will get thrown out.
I fucking hate cyclics in Boston. They blow through stop signs, red lights, cut around people who are in their cars making turns. I seriously wish they would ban bicycles from the road.
hang on.... if cyclists were tailgating and following too closely, and dr had to suddenly slam on brakes, why is it the drs fault and not the cyclists?
Because of what he told the police. If he'd kept his fucking mouth shut and pretended that he was at least remorseful, then he would be a free man today. DO NOT TALK TO POLICE.
Should have been longer. A car is a deadly weapon and people aren't penalized for their use of cars nearly enough.
"Here in the U.K., the cycling community has a saying that, 'If you want to harm or kill someone, a motor vehicle is the weapon of choice,' " wrote Tony Raven, of Cambridge, England.
Because of what he told the police. If he'd kept his fucking mouth shut and pretended that he was at least remorseful, then he would be a free man today. DO NOT TALK TO POLICE.
They hit HIM Einstein.
God forbid guilty people actually get caught and convicted, right?
