Can anyone recommend a DOCSIS 3.0 cable modem that is compatible with Comcast? It must be DOCSIS 3.0.

There are tons of cable modems out there that are DOCSIS 3.0 compatible and work with Comcast. If you're just looking for a basic unit something like a Motorola SB6121 should be fine.

Always start with the approved devices list, then whittle that list down depending on your budget and tier. The SB6121 recommended by nsafreak is on that list, but isn't recommended for the Extreme 150 plan.

I have had pretty good luck with my Zoom 5341.
My brother has the Motorola SB6121 and has said it works good for him.

Both Zoom and Motorola (and others) have models with built in wifi if that's something you would be interested in.

ZyXEL BRG35503 which looks exactly like my Zoom for $49 at newegg might also be a good choice on a budget. It seems to have decent reviews.

If you are upgrading this late in the game, spend an extra $10 for 8x4 channel bonding.

6121 is 4x4

My recommendations are as follows:
1) Arris cm820 (Be careful here, make sure you get it from a good vendor)
2) Cisco 3008 - Probably easiest to get for a good price
3) Moto SB6141 - Upgraded 6121 with 8x4 channel bonding

Also, avoid AIW devices... Generally not a good idea to piece these things together. I can write a whole article on why, but it would eventually be me rambling.

I hate modem/router combos as well, but my advice is this: If you plan on doing anything more than basic networking, get separate devices, otherwise an AIO is fine.
