I don't have a girlfriend.

But I have a close friend whos a girl who cries over lots of stuff.

"Patch Adams? I think I should be ashamed for knowing that title..."

You're right! I realised I had erred there, but I couldn't beat the clock to change it! I'm gonna cry now that you caught me fast. Hehehe! I'm kidding! ;)

But seriously, I think women generally have a tendency to cry more than guys do. I know I was not the norm. I admit 'cuz I cried often with every single sad story I heard. However, I still thinking it is normal for a woman to cry on occasions like this one. Every woman I've known has cried at some point. I don't think it's a matter of biology as it is nurture. Men are nurtured to stand firm and take it to be real men.

Anyway, I don't think you should worry about your gf crying. Some people would even argue taht you have not much of conscience if such story didn't touch you enough to cry. If I witnessed that one, I would cry. What makes it sadder to me was the fact that this was a nursing assistant with whom lives are entrusted for care and safety. All I could think of was . . . gosh could someone really choose death over a fine and something she could have handled legally? (Now I almost want to tear.)

only wussies cry. seriously, if I saw a man crying I'd probably punch him and say "quite being such a woman"

There are only three times a man should cry - death of someone close, loss of car/stereo, getting kicked in the nads. that's it.

Why you certainly do talk the talk... but I doubt you'd seriously pursue an altercation if you saw me crying. And if you did, I do belive I would respond, if not with outright force, then with an equally disturbing display of insanity.

Okay, time for the guys to fess up. For girls, tears are like sneezing sometimes. It happens, not always about something, whatever. (Someone should invent a stock phrase, like guezundeit (sp?) for female crying) So although you don't often cry just at random like us femmes, do you/have you cried on shoulders at times? Over what?

I think in assuming that a lack of empathy and attachment is somehow genetic in nature or based on hormones or sex kinda simplifies the issue while cutting off what I think is a more viable solution: everything :D.

I do cry at random, events and phenomena sadden me. Crying on someone's shoulder is no different that crying in the solitude of one's mind, it seems to me. We are each still alone and must choose. If the company of another simplifies an emotional katharsis, it's only a facilitator or reinforcing mechanism.

I recall reading in Gunter Grass' Tin Drum about a place where people got together and cried with the help of onions. The comment was that alone, it wasn't quite as effective. This applies here, I think in that you say males do not cry at random and thus must have a reason and really need the support of another.

I can see how that works, although I can't really say that is the reason why I cry, to answer your question.

oh and Hey HC, WB :)

Cheers ! :)

Just imagine, the crying state can last for about 9 months if you know what I mean. I haven't had to experience because of my own doing, but I've known women that can pretty much cry and laugh everyday without warning. In the end, it's futal, just cry with them and then they will wonder what's up :)
