I'd stay away from the hot water, it's not really for consumption. If anyone here has changed out an old water heater and sees what comes out will probably agree to that.

On the other hand, I realize you're not actually drinking the water when you brush, but it's still in your mouth.
 
it depends on the weather. in summer the cold water is pretty warm, so I use cold. in winter the cold water is really cold.. so I warm it up a bit.
