i do... since my father passed away, my mom's salary doesn't cover the expenses, mortgage, etc... so mine allows us to live comfortably.

Im a pretty independent person. parents sent me to a boarding school at age 15. they thought it would be a better education than the local school. I probly missed out on crucial periods of parent assisted development, but i'm still a pretty good kid.

No, but it's a good idea to save money, unless you just end up spending that money on a nice car and drinking and clothes in which case you = big loser.

And how much money does one need to save to not be a loser?

a majority of the savings you get from living at home. i'd say like 90% so in your case maybe ~$1200 a month that you are not paying in rent and utilities.

my parents would absolutely love it if stayed at home with them but i know that wouldnt work out, ive been living on my own since i moved for college and after graduating my job took me a good distance away from where they live so i just bought a house up here but i miss my mom and dad and all my friends, i will eventually go back when i have some good capital, hopefully i'll be able to pay off my house soon as well.

yeah just pay it like a bill as if you had to pay rent, and pay it into a savings form that isnt easily liquid that way you will think twice about getting money out.

I moved out when I turned 24 and work full time. Moved out roughly a year after graduate from college, but to be honest I wish I saved my money living with the folks and buy a house instead. Now I'm still stuck in an apartment after 2 years. Planning to buy a home soon, I hope.

One needs to question the merit of paying for a crappy apartment when one could instead stay at home, rent-free, in a much nicer house.
rent free? not with my parents....

While I'm still in college, I have no intention of moving back in when I graduate. If I make average salary when I graduate, which is around $50K, I fail to see the need to move back in with the home in suburbia. There's too much freedom that you lose living at home. How will I go out bar-hopping and clubbing for a night and meet new people, for example? I don't know about your college lives....but most of mine would be quite akward while living with my parents.

Technically, it could be that the parents are living with you and you can write it off on your income tax.
