Folks, it's "a lot".

Doesn't the period go inside the quotes when you end a sentence with a quote?

Owned.

No, it does not.

Dumb-Ass.

edit: not you, Jeff, you simply asked a legitimate question.

Actually, yes it does...well, depending on where you're from:

http://grammar.ccc.commnet.edu...ar/marks/quotation.htm

"In the United States, periods and commas go inside quotation marks regardless of logic. Click HERE for an explanation (sort of).
In the United Kingdom, Canada, and islands under the influence of British education, punctuation around quotation marks is more apt to follow logic. In American style, then, you would write: My favorite poem is Robert Frost's "Design." But in England you would write: My favorite poem is Robert Frost's "Design".

I don't work anymore, but when I did, I usually worked "a lot" of overtime...or by hourly standards I did anyway.
My "standard work week" was 5 days per week, 10 hours per day, with OT (1-1/2) after 8 hours per day.
MUCH of the time, we worked 6 or 7 days per week, 12 hours per day, with OT after 8 hours, and double time after 10 hours Monday-Friday. Saturdays were OT for the first 8 hours and double time after 8, and Sundays were double time all day, regardless of the number of hours worked.

There's a lot I miss about what I did for a living, but NOT the long hours nor the long fucking commute from my house into the SF Bay area.

Worked 68 hour weeks for 6 months straight during a 'busy season'
5 12 hour days and a 8 hour mandatory sixth day. There were often voluntary 14's or 16's and even seventh day.
So glad I'm not doing that again this year, but it was hourly and OT was time and a half, so at least I banked some money.

does it count as OT if you're salaried and aren't getting paid for it? :(

I stay 15-30 minutes late every day, but I don't really mind it since I've only got a 5 minute commute and I usually show up 20 minutes late anyways.

I work more than 40 hours in a week. But, i only work for 14 or 21 days a month @ 12 hours a day. Not too shabby... pays the bills and helps me save money.

I work 50 hour weeks normally. Through the holidays I'll work 55 hour weeks. I'm on salary so none of it counts, but that comes to ~540 hours of OT for a whole year.

I run a business, so there is no looking for another job. I'll get out of it what I put into it, and the hours will only go up from here.

The work week where I work is supposedly 40 hours, but you're considered to be a lousy employee if you don't work at least 48.

It makes no sense... if 8 hours of unpaid "overtime" is the recommended minimum, why not just make 48 hours the weekly requirement?

I average around 50 hours per week. Our standard work week is 45 hours, but anything above is comp. time. We're a small engineering company of 5 people, so the problem is finding time to spend it.

I don't get the people that work more than 40 hours a week if they aren't compensated for it... all OT at my place of work is frowned upon, whether you are exempt or not. We seem to be a "get your work done, go home to more important things" type company.

No, very very rarely. I actually can't unless I'm authorized to work more than 40 hours a week. That only happened once when we need to get a project done and the deadline was close. So I've probably worked about a total of 5-10 hours overtime in nine months.

40ish.

Just depends whats going on.

When I was doing the '08 budget, I was putting in a few extra hours a night from home due to the need, but now it's pretty slow with the holidays coming up so I just do my 40 a week.

some of the reason i took this job (my first out of college) was because it is hourly pay and pays overtime. 2 months after i started all overtime was cut out because the Gov. cut our budget. grrrr. i figure u gotta work OT while you are young and without a fam.

Nope, frankly I dont allow it and I would quit if they tried to force it, I love my free time. I work overtime about 20 days out of the work year and that is for crunch times getting things done but otherwise every other day is 830-5 typically. I manage a group of technicians at a small company and my boss is a big believer in not having to work outside work hours unless it is an emergency.

Same at my job, we're encouraged to value our families and our interests outside of work.
I'm taking tommorow off, only worked 24 hours this week. I'm usually praised because I manage my tasks/time quite nicely.

maybe 10-15 minutes per day, on occasion sometime reaching up to and more than an hour. Usual average work week is 40.5 hours probably overall.

I work an extra 45 minutes per day normally. I do it for a few reasons. First, it lets me get in before everyone else and I can catch up on paperwork before other people start bugging me. Secondly, it gives me time to get some (more) coffee in me and I can wake up a little more. Lastly, the extra time each day is roughly what I spend slacking off during the day, so I don't feel so guilty about it. I can't sleep in past 6 anymore these days and I don't have a family here, so I might as well be in the office getting stuff done.

Lately I've been working more hours because we've got a lot to do, so I work about 10 hours extra per week. I did two week straight of 14+ hour days, that was fun.

I don't really mind the overtime because my boss is awesome and it doesn't go unrecognized. I got a fat bonus in my last paycheck because of the two long weeks, so it's all good.

I only work 3 days a week, but I'm usually in my cubicle on those days from 10:30 to about 8 or 9. It isn't overtime, but it sure feels like it.
