Just curious how the rest of ATOT does it. Do you work alot of OT, and if so, how much? I do, powerplants are run on skeleton crews these days and we have way more work than we have time to do it in.

This year so far I've worked just north of 1000 hours. :(

But do you get paid salary? Or are you paid hourly and get paid for OT? I work overtime by my own choice just because I got too much work and not enough time to get it done. But I'm salary too so that means it's my dime so I try and limit it to about 45 minutes a day OT. It adds up though and it's making me hate my job.

I'm hourly, and the money is nice. But thankfully my new job will pay so much more that I can reduce my OT alot and still be able to pay the bills.

Standard week is 42.5 hours. I don't work much overtime..maybe six hours in the last month.

I'm salaried so my OT is Own Time :(.

But I like what I do, so I don't mind it as much.

When I am in the office I usually work 8.5-9 hour days. On the road it depends, sometimes I work 5-6 hour days, other times 12-14 (some of that involves driving).

I worked about 3600 hours in '05 and near the same in '06. This year things are lighter, but unfortunately my commute is so long that it still feels like a lot of work. I spend 2-3 hours on the road each day just due to traffic, so I'm still away from home 11-12 hours a day.

Yeah, I heard traffic in Atlanta is the pits.

When I was younger I worked all the overtime I was offered, sometimes 70+ hours a week for weeks on end. Then I went back to school and had to stop it and found I really didn't miss it.

I've seen people work 16 hrs. a day 7 days a week for weeks at a time. Base pay would have gotten them $45K/yr. They were pulling in $140K+/yr. One story had the plant manager calling in a supervisor to ask why a hi-lo driver was making more than him.

One day I'm sure I'll look up at my wife from my death bed and say, "I wish I had spent more time at the shop." ;)

I rarely work extensive overtime unless there is a crunch on a particular project. I am salaried, and technically don't get paid overtime. However, we have an agreement struck that if we're called in on a day off, it is double-time, and so I occasionally do that for the $$$. I rarely stay after 'closing time', but that is mainly because I want to spend more time with my family.

As one of the business owners, I put in a ton of extra time, but it's not something specifically tracked. We're probably averaging around 12-14 hours per day, for the last year and a half. Just this week I have already done 11:30 PM Sunday to 7:30 PM Monday; 11:00 AM Tuesday to 5:00 PM Tuesday, then back again 10:00 PM Tuesday to 5:30 PM Wednesday. So let's see, that's about 45 hours already. Hmm, I think I like it better when I don't calculate the number of hours. ;)

I'm salaried, so no. Not unusual to work 60 hour weeks. Lately it's been worse. People been quitting, nobody hired to take their place. I'm covering three jobs right now. It sucks. :(

Already started polishing up the ol' resume.

I feel for you. It's the same thing here. We've got a 20% turnover rate. I work my shift rotation, work half of another's, do all the I&C and computer work, and still have to clean, order parts, receive deliveries, and write procedures. My own shift rotation would cover one full time payperiod.
