Just ordered some Adidas Adipure 1.1's for when I start Insanity next week. Was wondering if anyone here has used toe shoes for gym type working out? Was going to order some Injinji toe socks. But I'm not sure I'll need them.

Definitely would not suggest toe shoes for Insanity. For the plyometric heavy stuff, shoes are pretty much essential to help break some of the shock absorption.

To answer your question, when I wore my FiveFingers, I didn't wear socks with them. I liked the way they breathed and the socks changed that quite a bit.

Thanks for the reply, from what I've read about the Adipure they're for cross training and nothing much like 5 Finger's hummm. A few reviewers even commented on using them with Insanity and loving them. But I'll listen to you > random reviewers. I guess I'll have to do some more research into them now.

You might be able to get away with them during the early stages of Insanity, but the plyometric work really increases as you start to get to harder discs. To me, I have seen people with metatarsalgia, metatarsal stress fractures, etc from this kind of thing. The only reason I toss my opinion in here is because there's not much of a benefit to doing Insanity in toe shoes as opposed to normal shoes. The cost-benefit ratio is off.

Well damn Zappos is as fast as Amazon for processing, called to cancel the order and it's already ready to ship. I can still use the shoes for other things, apparently they're a really good cross trainer and I can use them outside of Insanity.

1 last question for you SC, I work out on a 3/4" padded gym mat, that'll help a great deal with the problems from impact right? I ask because I've also heard too much padding can actually be counter productive for cross fit type training.

It will help, but it won't modify the way you actually land. I can almost guarantee you'll land differently in a toe shoe than in a regular shoe. There are many more degrees of freedom with the toe shoe. You'll probably be fine, but I hate when people start getting fit and then have to stop due to injury.

I do Insanity on Carpet. I had always just done it barefoot (I hate normal shoes) so I tried some Vibrams for a bit more grip on burpees etc. They work wonders.

I've never tried the toe socks yet. I can't imagine they would be needed. Maybe for long runs, as I HAVE gotten blisters when using the Vibrams for running.

I did a bought of Insanity, and did the majority of it barefoot. I do walk almost exclusively on the balls of my feet though. Something I probably picked up in Akido when I was young. I try to minimize my reliance on the shoe providing a soft landing with cushioning.

You knew you'd get this reply: As a dancer, no, I don't wear toe socks with toe shoes. I wear tights with toe shoes. And mushroom pads, too. I don't do much ballet these days, but in an emergency I can still dance on pointe. Can't imagine what kind of emergency would that would be.

The basic answer is the same as everybody else's. What kind of shoe are you using, what is other people's experience with that shoe, What shape is your foot? How long are your toes, how much space is there between the toes, do you need heel pads? Are your socks or tights loose and rubbing against your feet? Is the shoe allowing you to do what you want to do with it?

Experiment.

Best Have fun.
