Given all of the preprocessed food of today, it's definately hard for me to stay below the recommended 2400mg of sodium per day.

Honestly, sodium isn't a big deal to me, as I don't have high blodd pressure or anything. I never really paid much attention to it, but as I'm trying to eat better and read labels, I've noticed how much sodium is in everything.

Granted, I know I could do better, as I probably eat too many Heathy Choice frozen dinners. But even items like tuna or canned chicken is pumped full of salt.

Sodium? - Yay or Nay

I'm not really concerned about it but I do like to know how much I'm taking in a day.

Tuna is low in sodium. Regular Chuck Light is 240MG per can, that is relatively low considering it can be a whole meal by its self. Low Sodium tuna is only 50MG per can. Compare that to one can of canned ravioli (950 MG at least, and that is per serving, which is 2 per can).

And yes, I watch my sodium. Everyone should.

the Japanese eat twice as much sodium annually than Americans do. They seem to be doing fine, as their life expectancy is 10 years longer.

Numerous studies have been done on this important area of our diets. They all conclude the same thing: if you have high blood pressure, limit your sodium intake. If you are the 2/3rds who do not have high blood pressure then a high sodium diet has no impact on your health at all. Yep, many people are eating bland foods for no reason. However, eating a high sodium diet does put one responsibility on the eater: s/he needs to periodically have a blood pressure check to be certain s/he is still in the 2/3rds majority.

I don't worry about it too much, but I also make sure to drink lots of water every day. Help flush it out!

There's high blood pressure down my family line somwhere, so I feel that hitting up the gym and watching sodium intake has been and will continue to be a good preventitive measure.

what' s sodium?

jk..but yeah i dont care about my sodium intake...to be honest, i don't watch my intake of any particular nutrient. I think it's retarded to count calories or proteins or wahtever unless you have a specific goal in mind (even then, c'mon...just eat healthy foods and you shouldn't have to worry) OR a medical condition like diabetes.
