Most of the time, no I won't bother. If it's short and someone I'm familiar with and don't think is a POS (like Tucker), I'm more likely to give it a shot.

I'm also more likely to watch a linked video if it's posted in humor than in seriouspantsmode.

98% of the time, I would rather read the news in print. Talking heads can shove off imho, from either side of the aisle. I do enjoy Beau's perspectives and pointed statements (the bearded guy you mentioned), but in the end, it's just more anger fuel.

No. Doesn’t matter if they’re my tribe or the other tribe either—they all remind me of that YouTube longhair in leather chaps that OrioOreo used to post. Beau and Politics Girl show up a lot in my feeds and I skip right past. The only one I can somewhat tolerate is John Oliver…But he’s an actual entertainer.

I, for one, skip right over the video posts. If a poster can't make the point themselves, I assume they don't have one. I even skip the videos by that beard guy who is an expert on everything.

If I were to say to myself that the reason someone links a video is because they can't make the point, it would make me an idiot. How could I possibly know why somebody posted something. There are myriad reasons why they may have done so. And since the purpose of this forum is to share, I'd consider myself to be a self-righteous hypocrite if I couldn't deign to listen. Naturally, I have only so much time to devote to that so there are obviously videos I have missed, but not for the reasons you suggest.

This is a well known phenomena in Zen. New tea can't be poured in a full tea cup. You need to empty it first.

Naturally none of this applies to you as you are doubtless totally unaware of the inner implications of your outward rant because you have never been exposed to real knowledge, having grown up as, it were, in near total darkness.

Sadly, having informed you now at this late date you probably will react out of your typically habituated condition perhaps double-downing on your beliefs. Lacrimae rerum.

I watch quite a few, depending on subject and poster. If it's a slow eve and someone I don't trust posts propaganda then it can become like a homework assignment where I have to study up to refute it, which can be either work or play depending on my fatigue / crossness levels. I'll watch / listen to analysts on wars, equipment and tech as I don't usually think of searching for that content if I just sit down at the computer while I'm cooking supper or having a minute with a cat.
I rarely listen to the Talking Heads anymore.

Sometimes. If the talking head has a unique or interesting perspective not usually found in print. Or if they are specialists in a particular field of expertise, ie, military, intelligence, tech, etc.

I don't listen to YouTube video influencers for the same reason I don't listen to salesmen or cult leaders.

If you need to sell the "evidence," you probably don't have any. Link to the evidence and make your own argument. In an article or paper. The spoken word cannot convey actual demonstrable fact nearly as well, and is far to often used to influence.

Cults of personality have undue influence over people. If that weren't true advertising wouldn't be a multi-billion dollar industry and propaganda wouldn't be effective. That's why the alt-right, alt-medicine, flat earth and ant-vax cults dominate the podcast and social media influencer markets. These cults need to be sold through influence and influential cults of personality presenting claims as "evidence."

In my experience, the people who claim to be open minded and impervious to influence are the most easily duped.

I am a moran, but I don't think raging captures the full essence of my moranity.

I will watch videos depending on how bored I am at work.

Also I don't get the vitriol. I mean, I understand it if it's something like Trump or Fox or JP or some other lying sack of shit. If a picture is worth a thousand words then a video has got to be worth at least a few words on top of whatever is being said in it.

Depends on the vid and who posts it. Alt right incel hair farmers in leather jackets reciting nonsense to convince you they failed school? Not interested. A well sourced break down of something delivered without foam at the mouth, by someone with experience who respects facts and science, maybe has a sense of humor? Sure. Certain posters, that young grasshopper coward comes to mind, only post propaganda and conspiracy dreck. I've learned not to bother, use that time for something more worthwhile, like scratching my balls.

He does

Of course I do! I get all my deep analysis from youtube videos posted by random "influencers" you wouldn't give the time of day to irl. Well, those and Hollywood "historical" movies.

In all "seriousity" I am deeply heartened by the tenor of the responses here.

Rarely but on occasion. Another question is, do you read any posts which are longer than say, 100 words? Sometimes longer posts do not get the attention they may deserve.

I will watch a talking head sometimes to get a different perspective on a topic I'm already read up on.

Example: The latest Jerry Jones scandal picture of him in a crowd trying to stop school integration in 1957

I do like the beard guy but will only watch if someone referenced.
