Show me proof fire400! 😕

Worst offenders:

Bananas, three days from yellow to black (although they go into the freezer for banana bread)
Grapes, they looked so good until they had white fuzzy stuff all over them.

Bread, we stick to bakery bread so not much preservatives. 3-4 days if we're lucky.

My wife throws anything away that someone can't identify in 2 seconds or less. "What's this?" pause pause GONE.

same here

Bananas worst by far. I keep telling myself I'm going to eat 2 or 3 in a day but can't force myself. Have to end up splitting up the bunches they have set out for you and trying to grab some that are at different stages of ripening.

They can also be pretty finicky. I bought a bunch that were super green once and I swear it took them almost month to properly ripen, but once the were sufficiently yellow they quickly went south in a matter of only a few days...

I waste alot of fruit/vegetables I don't eat before it goes bad.

I really only like my fruit when they are unripe and have a bitter taste for the most part and once they start getting ripe and a bit soft I tend to not touch them and eventually have to toss them.

I don't waste anything. I buy just enough for a few days and I eat it then (e.g., two crowns of broccoli is gone in 3 days, a bag of mushrooms in 4 days, etc.). I stray away from buying too many fresh fruits/vegetables just so I won't waste them.

I think 27% of all food grown is wasted.

I guess like the stuff left on the sides of glasses/containers, plus rotten/moldy/tastes bad/etc.

Actually it's closer to half.

The main reason is bad transportation and the food never reaches the markets or never sells before it goes bad.

Part of the problem is that food that you cook (as opposed to reheat or microwave) generally isn't sold in portions that match the eating habits of single people.

I don't buy fruit/vegetables very often and when I do its because I'm planning to use it then. Have 3 dogs that take care of anything else so I don't consider that wasted.

We should start a thread for recipes that can be cooked in large quantities but frozen in individual-sized portions for future reheating and consumption.
