Do you wash your meat?

I always give it a good rinse before I marinate or throw it on the grill. I do not see how it would lose flavor, when if you are cooking it right, enough flavor will be locked inside.

I knew someone who boiled their meat. Takes away all the flavour.

As for just washing...I think it's common for people to wash their meat. IF you just do it quickly, I couldn't imagine much of a flavour loss.

are you referring to "searing in the juices" which actually doesnt?

I do with chicken, which does not really have that much flavor to begin with.

I would never wash a steak though.

My guess is the people who wash their steaks also use steak sauce.

Grilling it should destroy most of the germs, so washing it sounds like overkill.
Its not just the germs. What about dirt and such?

drop it on the floor?

give it a rinse, sure. but if you buy meat thats covered in dirt out of the package i wouldnt wash it, id buy it somewhere else. ... 😉

if youre really afraid of it being dirty a little in general, rinsing it with cold water wont hurt it, whatever kind of meat or poultry it is. in fact, some people prefer to brine meat, rather than marinade it; a brine consisting mostly of water, with dissolved sugar and salt, in addition to other flavorings. the meat may be soaked for an hour or two, or longer if its a larger piece like a roast or a whole bird.

quick rinse warm water.

Oh, yes, I wash my meat. My man-meat 😛.

What were you expecting? "Yes, I rinse my meat, polish its nails, massage it, read it stories before bedtime, give it presents for its birthday..."

steak sauce =
pan sauce for steak =

I've done a lot of my own butchering (especially venison)... where on earth would dirt come from??

The meat isn't washed between walking in the woods nibbling on clover and fried up with onions sitting on my plate.
Poultry gets washed, simply because it's not skinned, plus boiling water helps feather removal.

Where are you keeping your meat?
The butcher could have dropped it, could have been picking his butt before cutting it, had his dandruff flakes land on it, etc. You never know.
