As per our new forum overlords, nothing will be changed unless we ask for it in a unified way (see this thread: http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?p=37001475)

Therefore, I think it's only right to put it to a poll: If at all possible, do you want forum maintenance (forums go down for a few hours every Saturday night/early Sunday morning) to end? And if there's any related server issues that need to be addressed (for instance, the perpetual time warp bug which rears it's ugly head every so often) in the process, for those to be fixed as well? Only asking for this to be done if it's technically feasible... and as far as I know, it is possible to keep forums even of this size running smoothly with only occasional database maintenance, but if anyone knows differently, please speak up.

Mods: Please don't close or move this thread - it was pretty much asked for as there's nowhere else where a large part of AnandTech can voice their opinion on this matter

Probably shouldn't end, just do it on Mondays at 4AM or something.
PS, don't quit changing the oil in your car either.
 
Yes! It is totally and absolutely unnecessary.

There are forums 3x this size using the same software that remain online for months at a time. They only go down when there is actual maintenance, upgrades or transferring servers.

While I'd love to have it fixed and function like a proper forum, how about a compromise? Go offline on a weekday around 4:00 AM Eastern for 1-2 hours?
 
Yeah I'm with the rest of the guys in regards to the forum software. Don't understand why it needs constant maintenance.... I've been on other forums that don't shut down like this. Probably in their best interest to upgrade to a new up to date forum software. Vbulletin has gone through 4x and is now on 5x while this forum is still in the 3x era..

Lets spend some money!!!
 
To be fair, I like the look of 3.x, 4.x is fine, but have you seen the newest vbul forums!? D:
I have a feeling the downtime is just scheduled now. I've got a sneaking suspicion that no work is actually done, and the software just automated a the downtime. Instead of the middle of the night on Saturday why not 2-3 am on like a Tuesday or something?

So yes, yes I do.

This. Instead of shaving your balls once a week for a couple minutes to keep them nice and smooth, I'm sure it'll be easier to wait a few months, then have an hour long fight with your razor shedding off enough fur to stuff a small pillow.

Yeah, middle of the night on Saturday (unless your one of those Euro/Aussie fools)

It's probably not a bad thing, forces a good percentage of the user base here to stand up at least once a week.

Yeah, I agree - early AM hours on a weekday would be WAY better than 10pm Pacific on a Saturday night.
 
Yes. I have no problem with the forums going down for maintenance every once in awhile but late-night Saturday is prime ATOT time in my world. (sad I know)
 
If it is absolutely necessary, then please at least move it to a different day! The only time I stay up that late is Friday / Saturday nights, which is when the downtime currently happens and actually affects me.
 
I voted no because Sunday is the only time I can tell what threads I've visited and what ones have new posts. I'd probably have to stop coming here if it wasn't for the weekly shutdown.
