Do you view civil service as a prestigious career?

That's a pretty narrow view of civil service. I know several civil servants in the space community ... Air Force & NASA ... who have long and distinguished careers.

It really depends I think... If you are talking about a G-10+ level employee who is a serious manager or analyst in the state department or some agency... I think its a very prestigious thing.. esp because there is a certain allure or mystique to working for some of the federal agencies (not just the CIA).

Then again, there are a lot of low level clerks in the govt whose jobs are no more exciting or prestigious than any other crappy job...

come on, i was just generalizing, i am sure there are good people that work for the govt. , notfred and fausto are obvious examples. i was just fooling around
