I am wondering how many of you use your smartphone as mp3 player or do you have delicated device like sansa or ipod as your mp3 player. I am asking this because I mainly use my nexus one as my main mp3 player and I put it in my belt poach and twist the headphone cable around it and close the poach.

Also, do you plug and unplug the headphone often or do u leave it on the phone? I ask the question because it seems nexus one seems to kill my head phone quickly. I normally use the iphone comparible headset to listen to music and taking phone call; however, they seems to die quickly. They usually die within 3 -6 month of use.

The problem is always: one side of the headphone die while the other side remain usable. I killed 2 official griffon and 1 bootleg MM 50 iP. So I am beginning to wonder, do I cause more damage by plug in the headphone whenever i listen to music and unplug it afterward or keep the headphone connected and let it damage by twist the cord. I just bought a Skullcandy Holua Mic'd Gold Earphones Earbuds and I want it last more than 3 month.

I guess the final question is, am I better off getting a delicate player like sansa or ipod nano and put it in my pocket so the headphone won't get damage as easily as on my belt poach?

I use my phone for casual listening but I have a Sansa Clip+ with Sennheiser earbuds when I really want to listen to some music.

I mostly listen to music in my car, and I used to use my iPod. Up until the last month of my iPhone, then I started using it. Now that I have the WinMoPho, and the nice swiping for song switching, I am sticking with the phone.

Yes. In the car, or short trips (moped to work, walking in the morning) I use my phone (Galaxy S - Vibrant) as my mp3 player (or pandora, online streaming, etc). For longer stuff (hikes) I use my ipod nano (3rd gen). I find myself using my ipod less since getting my Vibrant.

If you are using your smartphone as mp3 player, how often do you unplug your earphone?

ZuneHD is my dedicated music device. Also is the main method of listening to music in my vehicle.

I'd prefer to have dedicated devices. Plus, the ZuneHD is a great size to use while exercising; much smaller than smartphones.

I listen to music in the car on my phone (Galaxy S Vibrant). I don't have any other audio-playback-specific devices since my Zune died a couple years ago, and I don't often use headphones to listen to music, either.

Edit: I would recommend unplugging your headphones from the headphone jack when you're not using them. Bending the cord at the plug to wrap the 'phones around the Nexus is what's killing them.

I don't have a smartphone as of yet, but I'd probably use it to listen to music in the gym. Then I could probably just leave my iPod in my car full time.

My iPhone is my music player in the car, at home and at work, and while exercising. It's the only player that I own and I use it all the time. In my car I choose tracks by talking to the bluetooth system in my car, which just feels so 21st century. :)

For calls, my headsets all have a built-in microphone so I just answer by clicking the little button and talking to whomever it is, or in my car, it comes in over the bluetooth as well. I pretty much always leave the earbuds plugged in except when I'm charging it.

I enjoyed my Zune HD while I had it, quite small and sturdy device with good audio quality and smooth interface. I now use my HTC T-mobile G2 as my primary portable music player and it works well, although I'd say it isn't as easy to navigate as the Zune HD (perhaps I need to find a better player). Although it is nice to have the volume rocker.

Always use my cowon J3 for music even though I have an iPhone 4. My music collection is too large and varied to fight for space on the phone, and the lack of proper equalizer on apple devices is an embarrassment to the industry. I've never been happy with the sound quality of iPods/iPhones and will avoid them if I can.

I occasionally will use my Droid Inc in car, and that's just when I want to stream Pandora. Otherwise I have a 6-disc in dash that I can load up with mp3's and browse through the lists right on the relatively large radio/HVAC screen. Bonus is since you can fit a lot of mp3's on a disc, I don't ever have to swap any discs out.

I mostly listen to podcasts, so sound quality isn't my top priority, but when I do listen to music, I use my phone. ((Samsung Omnia) (MUST... UPGRADE... SOON...)

I put a Motorola T505 in my car so I can connect bluetooth/FM. It's a great device! I bought a Bluetooth headset for listening at work/around the house.

For music, I have a Bluetooth headphone adapter so I can plug in some decent 'phones.

Like you, before I used my phone as a player, I had a PDA, and I wore out the minijack plug on the device a few times and had to send it in for warranty work. I'd also wear out my cables to the headphones and to the line-out device about once a year. That's why I started using bluetooth connections....

I actually bought my Droid on ebay for use as an MP3 player, when my View's battery quit holding a charge. I found a hard time justifying buying an iPod touch for the same price.

my phone is my only media player. part of the allure of a smartphone for me is that it's a convergence device that does everything i need it to do to a sufficient level so i only need to carry one device with me.

I have a Zune HD that I use in the car and at the gym. If I'm going running outdoors I use my WP7 for GPS mapping of my run routes and pace. I do like that if I rate something poorly on my Zune HD while I'm driving, that rating will be synced to my computer wirelessly overnight when my car is parked in the garage, and later that night that song will be removed from both my phone and my Zune HD wirelessly.

There's no way for my WP7 to be my only media player until it can play audio books though. What's the freakin' hold up on that?

How about the headphone issue? No one has address my issue on this matter yet?

I had a Nexus One and now have a Droid X and neither has killed any headphones I have. I've had headphones die when wiring goes bad, but I used both devices as my sole media player and neither negatively impacted my headphones (given that this is my phone as well as my media player, I frequently inserted and removed the headphones from their jack).
