Do you use your computer as a heater?

Because I sure do. 28F outside, windows all open up and in shorts and a t-shirt. Room temperature is about 68-70F. Although I do live in a small apartment. If I go near the window, it's like stepping into Alaska and back to south Florida.

Wow, I thought I was the only one. Seriously, though, my computer makes an excellent heater. When it's freezing outside, I sometimes boot up my comp just to heat the room up a bit.

In the winter, my laptop is my special friend.

Hahaha. I do the same exact thing. The heating in my house is wacky and usually leaves my room freezing so I turn on my PC and let the warmth flow like the good ol' Mississippi into the Gulf of Mexico.

Yes, I didn't realize anybody else do that. Watercooling really helps with it.

Yeah they make great heaters, and it's less expensive than gas heat haha

Do computers really make that much of a difference??!! Well, the air from the exhaust fans at the back are certainly a bit warmer than ambient but that's about it, certainly don't notice my room temp rising when my system is on.

Sometimes it becomes unbearably hot in my room because of the computer. So yes, it does a really good job.

I used to have my door shut and ran a dual processor Athlon MP system. My room was literally 85 degrees all year.

My computer exhausts alot of heat and it runs at 44ish C system temp in below freezing ambient temperature.

Oh most definitely. I just load up my server, 8 hard drives warms things up quite nicely. If I need more I'll do some prime95 on my machines. The time when you really notice how much heat your computer makes is during the summer, Oh man summer sucks for us computer nerds.

I have to keep a window open in my "office" most of the year. CPU runs at about 32C, Vid card almost never less than 40C. Only time I keep the window closed, is during the dead of winter, (when it's in the 30's) or the heat of summer. (when it's over 90F)...

I would run F@H on my Mac g4 Dual and AMD x2 in the morning to warm up my room while in the shower.

LOL @ thread. :p

Believe it or not I find the hottest thing (ok excluding the X1900XTX BLAST FURNACE!) are these Dell 3007's. You can feel the heat coming from the front of the screen. :Q

I used to use my computer as a heater but it runs too cool now unless I am actually running a 3D app to get my videocard pumping out the heat. :p

My old 19" CRT and older Pentiums/AMD chips really used to warm up a room... now my LCD and E6400 don't put out enough heat to make a difference one way or the other.

It's all those gamma rays coming from the display. Didn't you get your lead vest from the bottom of the box?
