Dropbox, iCloud etc.

I haven't really looked into it much because I've got a fairly large thumb-drive on which I carry my important files... but I've been reading about SkyDrive and how it's being baked into Windows 8.

It seems like it's just an external drive connected to your PC from what they've shown. Pretty neat, and I think I might start using it, especially if the rumors about 75GB of storage are true.

I use UbuntuOne, but not for syncing, and not for anything sensitive. I use mostly to share files.

iCloud for synching calendars, contacts, pictures, and favorites/reading lists between Mac, iPhone and iPad.

Skydrive for synching some one note documents between work & home.

I don't. Not that I'm really against the concept, I think it's neat, I just like having full control over where my data is, how it's backed up, etc... So I store everything on my local server at home, and anything I need to access remotely I just SSH tunnel in.

I've slowly been getting into SkyDrive (and I do have a dropbox account too - shared/synced folders are awesome for sharing between PC and Phone).

So far, I am really loving the combination of OneNote 2010 and OneNote Mobile (Android) with SkyDrive holding onto it all. I have non-synced notebooks, but I am thinking OneNote Mobile will take over as my main approach instead of Springpad or Evernote, though I haven't really tried Evernote).
OneNote on PC is so powerful, and so easy to integrate with other activities, that so far I am really liking the whole concept.

I'm not one who will fully take advantage of the cloud... I am actually trying to minimize how much I use internet services like that, as I prefer the fully-baked application experience on the desktop more than anything else - and thus, at the moment, most of my google experience is in Outlook 2010.

But it does have some useful features, and storage is getting so cheap (internet upload speed, not so much) that I wouldn't doubt cloud services will expand the amount of storage offered (and services provided) as time progresses.
Already SkyDrive offers 25GB of storage, but they do limit "synced" storage to a separate 5GB block (as such, you can store 25GB on SkyDrive, and have folders on your desktop and/or mobile device that sync with a second 5GB "partition" on your Live account).

I am also really looking forward to Windows 8. Definitely grabbing the Consumer Preview ("Beta") and throwing it in a VM to check out.

I uploaded all my pictures and resume to SkyDrive. Those are the only important files I have. Plus my WP7 integrates really well so I can bring up the pics anytime.
At least I know that's getting backed up. Unlike a single stupid hard drive in my computer.

not outside of syncing the contacts on my cellphone with gmail.

I prefer to have all my music stored locally... google music seemed like a great concept, but it just doesn't fit my needs. it seemed a bit slow on shuffling and most of my commute takes place underground.

One note synching to mobile devices is flipping brilliant. I would hug the developer that came up with that idea.

Slacker cached stations FTW. Granted that's neither "cloud based" nor an alternative to purchased content...but it works great for me.

Wait don't they just match your music with what's in the store?

Nope. It's literally uploading files from your PC/device.

I've got Music too, but it only was able to upload about half my collection (even my full collection is nowhere near the 20,000 song limit); half of my music is DRM WMA files from Zune Pass, and so as such, I still remain blocked from completely integrating my Zune experience with anything that isn't a device with a Microsoft OS/environment, and thus my ZuneHD lives on. I use it for running and playing music in my truck (aux connection).

Wouldn't mind using my phone for music if I can ensure power won't be an issue, but the ZuneHD is perfectly small (unlike my Galaxy Nexus) and I can't access my ZunePass music anywhere other than my PC and a Zune device. However, purchased tracks (and tracks "bought" with the monthly credits provided with my subscription), I am pretty sure, are completely compatible with Google Music. I know not all music on Zune is 100% MP3, but I don't know if I have any purchased tracks that are not DRM-free MP3. All my paid-for tracks, iirc, are available to play on my Nexus. And that offline-play option is quite awesome. :)

I just sync all my data to one of my servers, no real need for a third party system at the mo.

I have my own "Cloud" for accessing data. All of my data is accessible through a server I have and is accessible from any machine, anywhere. I also use asuswebstorage as an external cloudbased backup location for my Data.

Dropbox. Free account does basically everything I need. Right now it's 41% full, and I haven't cleaned it out recently. Works great for hosting pictures for Craigslist ads and stuff like that, and for easily transferring files to and from my phone.

That is... stupid.

IIRC there's some service that matches your music instead of making the user upload their library. MUCH better.

iTunes does that and is the only service to do this. Google music requires you upload your music, but the limit is pretty generous for a free service. 20K songs of 256MB or less in size.

iTunes Match, that's it.

Yeah sucks that it's not free but if you have shitty upload speeds than Google Music is pretty bleh.
