Do you use proper grammar while sending e-mails to and from work?

My boss recently told me to start using proper grammar as in using capital letters when appropriate. I know how to do that, but I just thought it was ATOT and I could type regular without caps or whatever. Do you use capitals and proper grammar at your work?

I do, when it comes to emails regarding work, and probably don't when I am emailing a coworker about lunch. Just because it is email doesn't mean it doesn't need to live up to the same standards of professionalism. So, I use proper grammar as reflective of how I would speak to them. I work at a pretty old school company, so if I didn't, I'm sure it would be the topic of conversation at the next Old Boys Club meeting. :)

Yes, I do. People that don't use proper grammar in a professional setting are ignorant...

I do, and I also spell check. I reread it a few times before it goes out just to make sure the grammer and the point I am trying to make is clear. You should think about who it is being sent out to, I correspond with Japan and other countries often, so i try to read it from their prospective and try not to use big words or complicated grammer. Short and to the point, will save you alot of time trying to straighten out a misunderstanding due to miscommuincation, especially becasue of the time differences.

Has anyone caught themselves typing an email like you type messenger messages, you know that messenger shorthand:

u=you

b4=before

I always chuckle to myself when I do that. :p

yes, I always use proper grammer when sending business e-mails. I don't wanna look like an idiot in front of my clients for spelling words wrong or using incorrect grammer.

Psst...that would have sounded as if you had a double digit IQ, only if you realized that you can't mix Archaic, and English together.

I use correct grammar whenever it's possible - I find it gives people a great impression of me, more often than not.

I use proper grammar every time. I work with people who don't, though, and they only are making themselves look bad to people higher up.

About three months ago I had to go to a meeting with some executives (I was filling in at the meeting for my boss). The VP of Marketing made a remark to another VP about some guy's horrible emails and the rest of the room laughed about it. The sad thing is they'll never say anything to the guy about it, but his chance of moving up is nil.

Me too.
I also try to masturbate a large word into the conversation, even if I'm not sure of its exact meaning.

My boys are not allowed to use anything but proper grammar in e-mail, IM... anything! Old habits die hard, and bad habits are worse! :frown:
