I've had no problems using my Intellimouse Optical for gaming - It seems no laggier than my old mechanical Intellimouse.

What do you mean by "They suck for gaming?"

I'm doing muuuuuuuuch better in Q3A & Q3TA since I got my Logitech USB optical...

The accuracy, speed, and responsiveness beat my old intellimouse in every way.

Ummmm, I suppose you have tried them then?

I have a Logitech Optical USB mouse, and I find it much more responsive in games than my old Logitech mouse.
There are a ton of adjustments you can make, so I think its just to get the settings right...

I have a ms intelimouse explorer v3 and find it fantastic for games but if you really want the best response for fps's you need to use a optical mouse and a Ratzpad as this is the best gaming surface you can buy for any type of mouse.

I use the Microsoft Intellimouse and I really like it. It's much better for gaming. I don't have to constantly clean the ball and stuff :p It also reacts much faster IMO

The boomslang is a ball mouse that's made for gaming, it has really high dpi and the buttons are huge, Razerzone. my roommate has one and it's decent for gaming but blows for everything else. i only use the Intellimouse Explorer and i find it good for gaming and actually getting some work done as well.

Yep my Logitech Optical Mouseman is excellent in gaming, btw using a good surface for the optical sensor in the mouse helps a lot, since not all desk and mouse pads surfaces are created equal.

I don't play FPS or anything of the like in which the mouse is at all critical for gaming but from my limited experience with those games I've found a lot olf the older Optical mice stank for gaming.
MicroSoft's newer Optical mice seem decent though, and I've long found Logitech's Optical mice to be quite capable.

I've got a Logitech MouseMan Dual Optical mouse.. it's the most precise mouse I've ever used. I play a lot of CS and Quake3.

I use my Intellimouse Explorer for gaming, and I have never had a problem. In fact, it's been more reliably accurate than any ball mouse I've ever used. I use a Trackball Explorer for everything else, since I have tendonitis of the wrist (too much mousing), but I just move it over and grap a hold of the mouse for gaming. My girlfriend and I will sometimes get in pointer wars, though...when she'll grab the mouse to click on something, while I've got the trackball trying to go somewhere else...hehe.

I think optical mice are sweet. I personally haven't had any problems with them though.
