Do you use Onboard sound or a Sound card?

I've owned SB Live,SB Audigy,SB Audigy 2 and ZS and have found myself coming back to onboard sound. Yeah I could tell a difference in sound but never a $50+(used) difference so I always ended up selling within a month or 2 of owning them. It would take alot to get me to buy another to be honest.

I use a seperate sound card. The AC onboard sound is usually software driven and eats up CPU. So i use an old Audigy instead.

I have a Realtek AC97 onboard sound. I also have a soundblaster live just sitting in my desk. Would I benifit with a frame rate increase if I put it in? If so how much?
