Do you use google voicemail for ALL of your voicemail?

Bought my first Android phone today (Atrix) and I'm setting up my GV account. It says I can use my GV voicemail as my main voicemail, which I find awesome as I can then access any voicemail on any PC or device. BUT I want to know if it works 100% of the time for AT&T users. I don't want to miss anything.

Yes, I use GV as my primary voicemail. I don't know if it's "100%" accurate, but it seems to catch all my messages just fine.

nope. I did at first til I noticed I wasn't getting my voicemails in timely manner if I wasn't in an area with good data signal. I have since gone back to the old fashioned dial voicemail along with visual voicemail from my carrier.

yes

TBH i dont remember how to check the normal VZW voice mail

set up google voice on Day 1 with my droid

Yea that's the only downside, need data connection but it works great for me.

You can work around this by having GV send incoming voicemails by SMS. Ideally, you should have some a continuous data connection though.

google voice voicemail has been flawless for me for 2 years. It works the exact same way as ATT or any other gsm network voicemail does. It sets the standard missed call/rejected call forwarding numbers to the google voice number.

it also gives you the ability to set different messages for different people...very useful!

to access them, you can either use the app or dial the gvoice telephone number, or check them on your PC or anywhere you can access your email

It works great, just the speech recognition doesn't always work the best. But it is great for normal voicemail and most the time you can figure out what they were trying to say without ever listening to the VM.

They tend to come across like:
Hi John who is your father? Best checking and see who your doing?

Then you check the call and it was...
Hi john this is your father. Just checking how you're doing.

Yeah, some of them come out pretty funny at times. I like that (most of the time) it's close enough that you know what's being said without having to actually listen to it.

I was paranoid about the thought of messages not going to google voicemail at first. I guess it's 2 years later and it's been flawless so far in that regard.

Apparently many people have been unable to leave messages for quite some time. Couple that with what I consider to be a broken app for GV entirely, and I can't believe anybody considers this a good or reliable option.

Is there any way of getting visual voicemail with just my network voicemail a la iphone? I don't want to have to call a voicemail number and have to listen to all the prompts and such just to get to my messages.

I don't use GV voicemail AT ALL. I accidentally enabled it, and the first time I got a voice mail, I ended up with about 4 emails, 16 (!) text messages that transcribed (incorrectly) the voicemail to text, and one regular "New Voicemail" notification that I couldn't get rid of for a week.

So I disabled Google Voice Voicemail.

I know on Sprint you just click the Voicemail icon and you have visual voicemail, I am not familiar with AT&T though, haven't been on them since the first generation iPhone. On Sprint, the voicemail to text is extra I believe, so I don't have that.

I don't have a voicemail button. All I can do is load up the phone app and old "1" until it dials voicemail like a dumb phone.

I tried using Google Voice for voicemail and text messages, but found it unreliable - messages often came in delayed or repeated. The experiment didn't last long.

Not at all. I hate voicemail. Since I don't give anyone my cell number, it is not a problem. 🙂

I use GV for all my voicemail, texts and calls. The sprint integration is nice since I dont need the GV app installed to take advantage of my GV number. I do wish GV would hurry up and support MMS though.
