i like some of the features, but not all of them. can you use google desktop w/o indexing? i just want the stock ticker, and email, news weather, etc notification and possibility of adding other gadgets. i don't need it to index for searching, actually i hate that feature. what do you guys do/use?

Check out samurize for weather, stocks etc...

Never tried google dektop, but beagle on suse works equally well with out any apprent indexing.

I had it for awhile, maybe a week or two...looked pretty cool. I installed a milkdrop gadget that played a mini-visualization while my music played, which also had a control gadget. Overall it was pretty neat, but I'm the type of person that likes windows full screen 100%, so that 2-3" on the right and side got to be quite annoying. That, and I was paranoid about the drive content searching and stuff, although searching for something after it was indexed was a breeze. Just type the name of a program and it ran it...pretty neat if you like that stuff I guess.

I did, but installed Windows Live search to use with the new Outlook 2007. That works pretty well, but the only reason I had Google desktop installed was because Outlooks built in search is horrid. Not that Googles was much better.

what is this indexing problem that i hear, i installed it on 3 othercomputers never had that problem. its a one time index thing, once its done it works fine.

what about files added after the initial indexing?

Google Desktop was IN MA PUTER... EATIN MA CYCLEZ

i do not like google desktop. yahoo widgets is better for some of those thigns... but is an even more resource hog. granted, on my new machine, it probably wouldn't make a difference.

I had a it installed for a couple of days. I uninstalled it though. I don't have much use for that type of thing anyways.
