Do you use Fan Mate with the 7000B AlCu

I have ordered a 7000B AlCu which I want to use with my P4 3.0 / ASUS P4P800 Deluxe.

Do you connect the fan directly to CPU_Fan on the motherboard or do you use Fan Mate?

This will be my first heatsink install.

I use a fanmate2 with my CPU fan and it works great, but it is all manual control, not automatic. You can use a program such as the freeware Speedfan to control your Zalman if you don't want to use the fan mate. It will allow you to run the 7700 with full auto-control. I am using Speedfan to only control my NB fan on my IC7, and using the fanmate to control my CPU. I have the fanmate adjusted where the noise level is good and where I am totally protected temp wise under a full load (my Zalman 92mm fan is set to run at about 2000rpm on top of a Swiftech MCX478). This arrangement is working very well for me. I will probably try the CPU with Speedfan, but I like the idea of hardware control over software control on the CPU, but that's just me. Either way will work great.......

Edit: I disabled the Q-Fan feature in the bios prior to the fanmate install so the CPU would run 100% speed all of the time and then used the fanmate to control rpm......

This HSF is so good, that even at low speed it keeps the CPU cool. The Fanmate2 ensures that you have control over the speed, and keeps it at that speed. Unless you're overclocking, I'd use the Fanmate.

By the way, I just built a quiet PC with an Antec Sonata case, a SeaSonic 350W PSU, a Nexus 120mm case fan (with a Fanmate), 2x Samsung 80GB SATA drives and the Zalman 7000B AlCu. You basically don't know that it's running, even when the drives are seeking. We're talking S-I-L-E-N-T!!

I use fanmate, my system's relatively quiet so the difference between quiet & low noise mode is noticeable.

I have the same motherboard. Have fanmate set to minimum RPM. Have set Fan RPM control in the BIOS to be active and set it to minimum RPM. It works fine.
