Do you use color/colour

I always thought "colour" was reserved for British, Canadians, and all those wacky folks..but I've been talking to a girl who actually uses "colour" and "cheque", and she's been living in America all her life. Weird..

The British spellings don't make any sense. What does that extra u do for you? Why would you have "centre" when you don't say it that way? English spellings make little enough sense as it is. I'm all in favor of making the English language more consistent with its spellings. It would really help people from foreign countries trying to learn English.

When I'm typing for a paper or something, for some reason I'll type out "colour" or "favourite" or whatever, but then I'll change it with spellcheck. Which is odd since I'm American and have no idea where it would come from.
