Yes, on LCDs. If you're using it on a CRT, you're an idiot who doesn't have the slightest clue how it works. It's only intended to work on LCDs. All it does for CRTs is make them blurry.

I've seen it on both, and IMO, it's even WORSE on an LCD at native res w/ DVI since you can get exact pixel precision with most fonts as it is.

Do you mean VGA? Cleartype is made for DVI LCDs. What pixel precision are you talking about???? If a font makes a pixel black, it's freaking black.

No, I mean DVI. Why would you want the font to be blurred intentionally when it can be exaclty as designed. 1px/px from video card to monitor.

It's not blurred. The font just spills over into 1/3 of the nearby pixels. http://www.microsoft.com/typography/WhatIsClearType.mspx

It's not blurry at all if you configure it properly. Go to microsoft.com and use their online tool to configure it. You pick-and-choose from several text boxes of options. Just pick the one that looks the best and voila. It's UbarClear/Crisp on every computer I run XP on.

I've done that beofre, and I just don't like the look of antialiased text.
