I personally think they are a great idea. With the high cost of phones now, preserving the resale value is very important. A good case will keep your phone brand new for years.

That being said...I don't use one. I'm a minimalist like that.

I paid $15 for the Seidio case I use on my Droid. Doesn't add much bulk, and makes the phone more "grippy." Pretty good investment for a phone that costs as much to replace as a Droid does.

I don't use a case for my BlackBerry, but I did put on a screen protector.

I also don't drop my phone on the ground like a klutz so I don't think I have anything to worry about.

Yep, I like to keep my stuff nice.

Though the case cost as much as the phone ... which makes no sense.

My rubberized cover was $20 at the Verizon store.
The same cover can be bought for less than $3-5 on Amazon if I had looked online first instead of buying from them..

I'm not sure why people waste money on cellphone insurance.
I'm not sure why people spend $40+ on cellphone cases or covers.
Anything more than $20 is too much IMO.

I used to be in the "only buying cheap cases from ebay/amazon crowd" but as it turns out the Verizon store cases are actually better quality than the ones on ebay. I spent $30 for a few cases for my HTC at the Verizon store and they are much better than the ones I bought on ebay for $3... thicker, better quality, fits better. Well worth the extra few bucks. One of them was a leather case that I simply couldn't find online.

I currently dont use a case because I currently have a POS bar phone...if I had a multi-hundred dollar phone I would of course have a case to protect my investment...same as you have insurance to protect your car and health...once its put that way the original topic/question seems QUITE dumb, doesnt it?

Plus, $40 for a case? Where are you buying your cases OP? Bang & Olufsen? You can get a silicone case for just about any phone on eBay for like $2 free shipping...hmm...troll OP perhaps?

I use an anti glare screen cover for my iPhone.
No case. Cases suck.
They add heat, bulk, accumulate dirt, etc.

I have a Zagg Invisible Shield that covers the screen. Probably saved a few scratches on the screen. I didn't want to bother with the "full body" shield; it's expensive and looks like a pain in the ass to install. Just putting the screen protector on sucked ass.

This, but I have the full body shield. Oddly enough the body shield installed easier / smoother than the screen shield, which still has a few small bubble-lines in it. :/

screen protector, no case.

I have a case for my ipod touch because apple designs products retardedly and any stray breeze seems to scratch it.

this for me too. and sometimes people get the case solely for the purpose of keeping it on their belt instead of flopping around freely. i dont think ive ever had a phone come back to me from my PMs or superintendents for heat damage after being in their belt holders, even in az summers.

Yes I have one on my Droid.

I can't recall ever dropping a cellphone in the last 10 years, but I figured why not get one for the Droid. It doesn't add much bulk. It was $20 and might save it from a short fall. Cheaper than paying, what, $5-7/mo for insurance? Certainly cheaper than getting a replacement off ebay for $200.

Also I almost always resell my phones on ebay and a scratch free phone will usually go for a little bit more.

I paid $360 for it, it costs $200 to replace if I smash it, and if I keep it clean, I can resell it in a year for $200 at least. Hmm. Yeah, I think my $34 was worth it.

Yes, it's an HTC Touch Pro and I use the soft sided case that came with the phone. :)

Can't wait till contract is up and I can grab an Evo.

Didn't until I got an iPhone, now it has an aluminum case and a mirror screen protector(both case and screen protector was a total of~$10 shipped from eBay).
