I can't understand people who buy these $40 cases or cover for their $200 phones. It's a technology gadget. The phone will be outdated in less than 6 months. Cover just adds bulk and heat to the phone. The current phones with gorilla glass or tempered glass are about next to impossible to scratch or break with normal use. So why buy a case that cost like 20% of the price of the phone? It's like buying extended warranty on electronics. Why bother when these are disposable items and so cheap to replace?

i hate cases. i'd rather take my chances. you can buy replacement glass for iphones pretty cheap so i don't see the point.

Cheap to replace? $600 is cheap

This has to be a troll post since you do know that $200 price is subsidized for signing-up for a 2 year contract.

My wife has some sort of natural born ability to destroy a cell phone in about a year. That could be dropping it, dropping coffee on it, dropping something else on it, ect. She finally broke down and got a good hard shell for her phone this go-round and knock on wood it's lasted longer than any other phone.

Yes a phone may be "disposable" but it's still a couple hundred buck purchase even at re-up times. And even more expensive than if you need to replace it before your upgrade period. She's probably a good candidate for the replacement warranty but that's what...$15 or $20 more a month?

i have a rubberized skin for my iphone because it has a tendency to slip out of my pockets otherwise. i would gladly pay $30 for the phone i bought for $400 again.

Phones generally come with 2 year contracts. Unless you've got money pouring out of your pockets you won't be changing phones in 6 months and a $40 investment to help safeguard the phone somewhat is fine.

screen protector, no case.

I have a case for my ipod touch because apple designs products retardedly and any stray breeze seems to scratch it.

Yup. I bought an unsubbed phone and expect to be able to sell it for something decent once I'm done with it. Nobody buys a beat to hell phone.

Exactly. My phone was free thanks to the 2 year contract, but if it get's broken it will cost $400-$500 to replace. I always keep it in a rubber casing, and have a screen protector. I don't want to be stuck with a busted up, scratched up POS phone for the next 2 years so that's the way it's going to be. If you are replacing your phone every six months you are either spending a truck load of cash on phones, or you have some kind of magical provider that's willing to hand out brand new phones like candy.

I use a Best Skins Ever skin for my shitty Chocolate (going on three years now). Pretty good investment, it's taken a lot of abuse and still looks pretty good. Without it I'm sure it'd be beat up to hell.

I don't buy cases for my phones, but also, I usually keep my phones at least 2-3 years. (in the last 15 years, I'm on my 4th phone) Who the hell replaces their phone every 6 months? that's crazy!

Nope, the only time I've ever had a phone break was when a door hit it (by door, I mean a pair of double doors that we pulled out of the wall) and broke the outer screen. I continued to use it for another 9 months like that. That was a super cheapo phone. Since then, I've replaced it and later got me a hand me down phone. I've been without contract for about a year now.

Nope, dropped my phone in a cup of coffee 2 weeks ago, got SIMM out quick and bought another $30 phone, good to go. I can't see the reasoning of buying an expensive phone when all of them are subject to being dropped, sat on, rained on, stolen, ect. I would just get more stress out of owning an expensive phone, more fun that I would get playing with all the features..

I think it depends on the person. I got a case for my Incredible, but I hated it and took it off. But I don't tend to ever drop or break my phone or any other devices on a normal bases. Yet there are other people at my work that seem to drop anything in their hand on a daily basis. We make them use a case.

Then you have the higher up people who insist on not using a case even though they treat their electronics like shit and throw them any chance they get. But since they pay the bills, they get new phones every 6 months once they break it.

My rubberized cover was $20 at the Verizon store.
The same cover can be bought for less than $3-5 on Amazon if I had looked online first instead of buying from them..

I'm not sure why people waste money on cellphone insurance.
I'm not sure why people spend $40+ on cellphone cases or covers.
Anything more than $20 is too much IMO.

Funny because I just bought a case and screen protector off of ebay for $6. It may be outdated in a few months, but there is a market for 2nd hand phones, just look at the for sale/trade section here.

Most people dont replace their phone with a new model every 6 months. Thats my whole point. People who upgrade often are the ones that probably benefit the most from covers as they need their phones to look mint when they sell it after 4-6 months. Majority of people keep their phones for 2+ years and buy it at subsidized price of $200 or less. They make up bulk of phone buyers and cover users. So why buy and use expensive covers when the phone tech changes so fast and these things depreciate like a rock? New phones screens are seriously built like a tank and impossible to scratch with keys and coins. These things will easily survive couple feet drop on concrete with only minor scratches on the case.

Screen protector on my EVO and that's it. I can't stand the added bulkiness of cases. If I drop it and break it, that's why I have insurance.

Use to use a pouch, but once I actually started using the phone, the pouch got in the way, so been going commando. Just slap a screen protector on and good to go.

I have a Zagg Invisible Shield that covers the screen. Probably saved a few scratches on the screen. I didn't want to bother with the "full body" shield; it's expensive and looks like a pain in the ass to install. Just putting the screen protector on sucked ass.
