Do you use bacon grease to cook with?

Because it tastes good. For many traditional dishes it's what I learned from my mom, my grandmas, great-grandma etc. Folks in my family tend to live to mid-80's, back many generations, unless they died in war, childbirth, epidemic, indian attack etc. Bacon grease was healthy enough for them.

Only with eggs if it is in the pan.. bacon/bacony egg/cheese sammich ftw

I want to try bacon fried rice though.. my fried rice has been very successful but it could use some bacon

This.

I don't reuse bacon grease like my mom will, but I leave some in the pan if I'm cooking eggs to go with the bacon.

Some of you may be old enough to remember the bacon grease can kept on the stove by your mom or grandmother. Bacon grease has many uses and while it can go rancid from exposure to humidity, it is not a health hazard and does not need to be refrigerated.

There's nothing like eggs fried in bacon grease. When you make the decision to do that, you're throwing health out the window in favor of flavor, which is definitely worth it now and then.

I don't think I have had eggs like that until tomorrow maybe.

When I really want unhealthy. I hand make buttermilk biscuits, fry some cured ham and make red-eye_gravy to pour over the biscuits. I only get that suicidal about twice a year:laugh:

..

I remember at camp after making bacon my grandpa left the pan next to the BBQ and it had a big enough amount of bacon grease in it.

Give it about 10 minutes, the squirrel cleared it up for us. Licked it all clean. Had no idea they'd even drink that. Then again, I had no idea chipmunks would eat giant green caterpillars either.

Once in a while. If I'm making bacon and eggs I fry the eggs in the bacon grease and I'm actually cooking with bacon grease right now. I'm making some red beans and rice and am using some bacon for flavoring. So I've sweated the peppers, onions and garlic in the bacon grease.

i never would have thought of using bacon grease to cook with.
There's one thing about eating a pound of bacon, it's another to use bacon grease.

ironically, i think it's Too UNHEALTHY. Olive oil FTW!

Do you use bacon grease to cook with? Why/Why not?

Bacon brings smokey, pork, and salt flavors to your cooking. Compare the flavor of chicken or potates cooked in vegetable oil vs bacon fat and get back to us.
