Do you use a screen saver?

I don't bother with screensavers anymore. I just set my monitor to turn off after 15 minutes. Screensavers are redundant now.:)

I am still using screen saver but monitor goes standby after an hour

Nope, screen-savers are a waste of CPU time.. time that can be better put to use in any of several Distributing Computing projects that Team Anandtech is a member of. ;)

Is it better for your monitor to go on standby or be set to turn off after so long or does it really matter?

Yep, I use a screensaver.
I use the My Pictures Slideshow screensaver which comes with WinXP.
Since my 21" monitor is in the living room, everyone gets a kick out of the slide show from the folder of latest family pix.

What's the point of a screensaver? Just something to look at? But it usually turns on while you're away, so who sees it?

Oh yeah, I recently got a Donnas screen saver, so when I come back from a cig there they are smiling at me...
