need some numbers

I havnt ever found a need for a separate number-pad

Oh wait i did one data entry for some stats; so I used my iPhone...

I've noticed a lot of "desktop replacement" laptops are featuring keyboards with number pads on them. I'm not a fan, honestly. I'd think that if a person needed a number pad that badly he could connect a USB keyboard.

Eh whatever.

I do when on a desktop but have no issues not having one when on a laptop.

I can go a lot faster with a number pad though.

I think they work good enough for a once in a while type deal:

or else get an external one or use your iPhone

Alwaus whenever punching numbers. I almost took my own life today using a Mac compact-wireless keyboard without one; was entering in a lot of numbers. And I've done a lot of data entry professionally, so I'm use to it.

Daily, yes. I do a lot of merging of patient records, lots of number keying is being done. Before that was a job that had a lot of calculating of numbers & financial data. Then before that was a job that had a lot of entering of IP addresses.

I'm pretty good with the 10 key.

I don't put in numbers very much so I don't use it very often... 9404454321313133154440484890656601319 if I had to type that in quite a few times a day, then yeah I'd use it a lot more...

yes, all the time at work. I would go insane without it.

I spend like half my day typing IP's into various things (ssh, remote desktop, spreadsheets, databases, configuring nics, etc)

I'm an accountant, so yes, frequently, every single day. So here's a question for you - when are keyboard manufacturers going to start putting a tab key on the keypad? Seriously, it's just the most irritating thing in the world that I have to reach over my keyboard to hit tab in a spreadsheet. If you don't know why this is irritating, this feature request is not for you.

5 years ago I would have said no way. However after working at 711 for 4 years as an assistant manager/manager I've gotten really good at number entry using a num pad. It wasn't much work as far as data entry goes, maybe 100 numbers a day, but after months and months of doing that you get good on the num pad. I'm actually much faster at the num pad than at regular typing.

I do a lot of TCP/IP stuff, and I really miss it when I'm on my laptop. IT seems to take forever in comparison to the numpad.

No. But I don't mind having one. I'd buy a tenkeyless unicomp if they made one. I'd get a topre or a filco, but the models I'm interested aren't worth the cost of importing. Yes I'm a keyboard snob so it's mechanical switches only for me. Logitech, apple and other dome/scissor switch boards are garbage, so that limits my options. I'm content with my unicomps for now.

All the freakin time. It's the one thing I hate about laptops... lack of a real numpad.

I get over it though.

Yes.

It's bad enough notebooks don't have them; now lots of newer desktops are coming w/o them too. 🙁
