i use opera sometimes for big http downloads. the reason is ie will download it and copy the file again. :|
Huh?...

IE downloads the file to a temp directory, and then copies the temp file to where you told it to go.

No big deal.

Anyway, to answer the question.. no.

it's a big deal because when it's copying a large file everything slows down t a crawl and it really really really pisses me off

No. I manage my downloads without extra crap.

Edit: Sometimes I mangle them (downloads) but most of the time I manage them.

Hmm.. My main rig is a POS K6-3/400 that I built 3 years ago, and even when copying a several hundred megabyte file, I don't get any slowdowns...

I have two lines of things open on my taskbar, 322megs of ram in use.. and everything is still snappy. 🙂 Perhaps you need to go over your settings.

I use a download manager when i'm on dsl or dialup. Cable I usually just try for quick download. If I don't get it, then I look elsewhere

getright, always

i like the file browser, great for ripping pics 😛

also i like the multiple source thing, great for slow servers

I use FreshDownload, and I'm on cable. It really does speed up the downloads by establishing up to 8 connections to a HTTP server and 4 to an FTP server. Besides, its freeware, has no spy/adware(not all of them do) and it has the resume & scheduling features which are neat.

Well, I have cable, so I need no download manager.

Some years ago, when I had a regular 56k connection, I used getright, and then went to download accelerator for the sake of it's options. But they had far too many adds, spyware, and I get tired of getting all those 3rd party software on the PC ... it kind of slows it down ...

... now I just install the minimum stuff, and if I want to try some crappy software before install it in my machine, I use another PC for testing and crashing and whatever happens ... 😀

But with cable I need no download manager. I always liked to be in control of the stuff, so I can say that I'm the man of my machine! I control it! (well, at least I think so ... but today I do believe Microsoft controls it more than I do ... lol)

Whilst I agree that broadband is limiting the use of download managers I still sometimes find them useful on some occasions. For example a few months back I downloaded nearly 50Gbs worth of Transformer cartoon VCDs in one (very long) download session, in that instance LeechGet was very useful.

I`m on ADSL now and still like to use a download manager, infact I`ve tried DAP,GetRight,Star Downloader,Fresh Download,Download Express and right now I`m trying Mass downloader which works in Opera as well.

Before I had cable I used Gozilla or Download Accelerator... somehow I was able to get 15K off of that dial-up... Now I use nothing.

I'm using Getright
well, i'm still on dialup... so still need one. Heh. not for managing downloads though, just for the resuming function.

I was using DownloadExpress for larger files for resume capabilities, but when I got my wd se drive, it started to hardlock if I downloaded directly to that drive, switched to LeechGet and it worked, but rarely use it anymore.
