Sometimes I turned the music off, like when I'm playing a racing game. But not always. Most of the time I keep the music on.

Can't think of a game whose music was so bad I turn it off. Enough of it is well done and adds to the game.
I couldn't stand the music in Olli Olli 2, so I just listened to my own music with in-game music turned off.

I don't turn it off, but first thing I do when I install a game is to go to settings and lower the music level to like 2/10.

Depends on the game and mode I guess. However, I can't think of a single game where the music detracts me from the overall experience.

i'm the complete opposite, never ever been a fan of game music, i'd always have the radio or other music playing instead

Always. I want to hear the sound effects. I don't mind if the music is source though.

Thinking about it some more I thought about the Carmageddon series, that music I never turned off as it had Iron Maiden etc. Sometimes a soundtrack actually does add to a game and hearing "Be Quick or Be Dead" while mowing down Peds is something not to miss.
