Do you turn off the car when you fill up with gasoline?

Just notice it seems like everyone turns it off. I used to, but got tired of it being cold or hot and having to wait for the thing to finish filling up.

I can't see how there is any danger with the car running. I mean your engine runs when it draws from the gas tank anyway...

Seems like it'd be better to leave it running so if a fire breaks out you can leave, or a shootout occurs...

Yes, most of the stations around here have signs up saying they don't allow it. Not sure what would happen if you tried but I don't wanna be the one to find out.

Edit: Dammit, I totally mixed it up in my mind. One vote for no needs to be changed to yes.

How can your car possibly cool down in the 2 minutes it takes to pump a tank of gas??? 😕

I turn it off for the sake of not wasting any.

did it once by accident...I was scared when I saw the meter slowly go to full.......I was scared to touch my car

yes, it is state law. Gasoline fumes are explosive. Open sparking or excess heat can cause flame and fire. There are lots of fumes around a gas station, especially if some moron over-pumps.

Oh yeah great, you can drive 10 metres before blowing up inside your car.

Hahaha see and I found it funny that he used a shootout as an example. Maybe he meant that the first thing he would do was pull the pump out before driving off.

I shuffle my feet too, to get the biggest spark when I touch the nozzle. I  skin grafts🙂

I turn my car off & pull the keys, ever since a friend of mine had her car stolen at a gas station.

Yes, but how is the car running any more of a danger than it not running? People are driving around the thing...

I never shut the car off. Only heavily concentrated gasoline vapors are combustible. For example, if you throw a match or a cigarette in a container of gas, it will just go out.

LMAO, I couldnt stop laughing after I read that for 2 minutes

It's not dangerous to leave it running, despite what some people say, but I shut it off every time anyway. Also, some cars rely on a bit of positive pressure in the gas tank.
