Do you trust online shopping?

Title says it all. How much faith do you have in shopping online? And I mean everything aspect of online shopping. The fraud aspect, the chances of orders getting messed up, and of course, the hassle of driving to UPS to pick up yer package because you weren't home to grab it in the first place.

Personally, I'm a fan of it. Anytime I can buy christmas gifts in my boxer shorts, I give it two thumbs up.

I'm completely confident in the big chain stores. Obviously those shady stores online like the ones offering X-Boxes for $200 or something thats too good to be true, I don't trust. But I don't even think twice when I'm ordering something from a well known store like Amazon. I do use One-Time Use credit card numbers for certain smaller stores that look reliable but could be fake or problematic. Its just like buying at a B&M. If you're buying off the back of some guy's truck, then chances are you might not be getting what you're asking for. If you're buying from a mom and pop store, there's a chance they might not support you well if the product breaks. But if you buy from the big retail stores, you might pay more, but you usually don't get screwed if something goes wrong.

BTW- In terms of encryption, am I worried about someone stealing my credit card number as it goes over the net? There has never been a case of someone ever cracking 128-bit SSL. I'm more worried about giving the waiter at the local restaurant my card because he can use one of those little devices to swipe it and get all of the information stored on the magnetic strip.

I'm not necessarily confident about businesses' crappy websites.. but since I use Citibank Platinum and Amex Blue... I know I'm protected either way. hehehehe...

Side note to LiQice (ironically off-topic to this off-topic thread):

Your apprehension about waiters is well founded I suspect. Though, during my brief stint as a waiter, I encountered Customers who drove me to a life of deceit. After serving a particular Customer, and ringing him up for a credit card payment, I presented him with the receipt. On this receipt, you not only sign it, but also fill out how much of a tip you wish to give, and finally total up the bill. This knuckle-dragging troglodyte simply scribbled 'YES' in the tip entry, and forgot to total his bill. Oh how tempting it was to 'help' him by filling out a dollar amount for the tip.

i am as confident in online shopping, as i am with handing my CC or check to a cashier at any store, and having more hands then i know touch those slips of paper. if someone is gonna scam you, they are gonna scam you, was happening A LONG TIME before the internet came around!!!!

As long as they have SSL and a website that doesnt like an ameture made it, i'm pretty confident. If something goes wrong i can just make a fraud claim.
Never had a problem though...

Over the last two years I've bought & sold several thousand dollars worth of stuff without incident, so I guess you could say I trust it.

I have confidence in the big name stores since they trade common stock 🙂
As for unheard of ones, I tend to stay away.
