Do you tip when doing take out?

I was wondering what the proper thing to do is when doing take out. I'm not talking about a place made for take out, like a Chinese Food place. I'm talking about a nicer place where most people it in.

Since we have a small child at home my wife and I still like to eat the fancier food now and again, without having a screaming baby with us. Most fancy places will do take out, but I wonder what I should tip. Obviously the 15-20% does not make much sense since you are not getting that level of service. But someone is still packing up all of the food (main dish, bread, salads, etc).

What do you guys do?

I will give a dollar or two. Just like at a buffet. Just because you bring me a drink, don't think you are getting 15%.

I doubt I'd tip in a situation like that. I would only tip if they brought the take out to my house.

Instead of doing all that 15% calculation crap I break it down to this

To answer your question I will never tip when taking carryout. I also don't pay until I have my food ready in a bag sitting next to me.

Food tip - No matter where I go to eat chilies or some fine steak house you get $2.00 unless gratuity is forced.

Haircuit - Cut it correctly - $4.00 / Screw up - you give me a free haircut and no tip.

Taxi - Well the very few times I took one I had a set standard of $3.00

You tip if they serve you at your table.

No table service, no tip.

You can tip yourself when you get home, if you want. :)

Now here is the problem. We as customers are not supposed to tip just to avoid having a scumbag spitting in my food.
By default You shall serve food without spit. I, as a customer, will then judge Your professionalism and tip accordingly, usually 15% for normal service.

Why would you tip the hostess for taking your money and making change?

I do tip at the places where they bring it out to the curb.

I don't. First, who would be getting the tip? The waiter preparing your food? That's the person doing all the work, but the one that would recieve it is the person that handed you the bag and took your money. That's all they did.

In truth, I'm not that big of a tipper. I only tip when dining at a restaraunt, and then only if I feel that my waitress/waiter made an effort to make sure I was happy. If I have to sit for 10 minutes waiting for them to come back and refill my drink, no tip for them.
