The point of these services is that you schedule your ride via smartphone - no cash or even cards are required in person... but, you cannot tip through the application. Both websites state tipping is not expected or required.

So, do you tip these people or not? :thumbsdown: :thumbsup:
 
you can tip Lyft through the app but not Uber. I usually don't but felt extra generous over the weekend and did for my LV ubers/lyfts.
 
I've never used either service (my wife and kids have, but I rarely travel) but I would definitely tip. After reading how much Lyft and Uber have cut the pay to the drivers, I would want to make sure they were fairly compensated for their time and vehicle usage. But I am a weirdo who still carries cash most of the time, and I know a lot of younger people do not.
 
I don't tip on Uber but have been tipping on Lyft (only have had about 7 rides total) for 1-2 dollars - especially when my ride was compensated by credit (last two rides cost me $.15 ea)
 
sometimes I'll tip a buck to the Lyft driver, generally if they're friendly or sometimes they might have waited a few extra moments for me to get to where they parked. Let's face it, some of them are just trying to make a living/few extra bucks, the rates keep shrinking, and in general Uber/Lyft are a lot cheaper than taxis.
 
I'm gonna say it, all you people that get bent up about tipping, if you tip your server, you should tip these drivers. They get paid even less than servers do.

I have tipped every single ride, except the first one (where I was clueless.)
 
Never used Lyft.

I tip for UberX, I do not tip for Uber Black. The cost difference between them should be more than enough.

I have found Uber Black to be much better experience than UberX.

well yeah cuz UberX is some jackass with a car and Uber Black is a full TCP car driven by a professional.
 
Nope. Part of the appeal for me with Uber is not having to deal with tipping bullshit. I suppose if Uber had a simple button I could push to add a couple of bucks to the fare I might, though.

But But But they provide you a service and deal with crappie customers and make crap money, you have to tip!!!
