Do you tip the Home Depot lumber loaders?

Just curious as I was just leaving there and noticed the guys out in front of the lumber area whose primary responsibility seemed to be helping customers get their lumber loaded onto their trucks. I only had one sheet of plywood and didn't need any help so I just took it on out to the parking lot and loaded it up myself. I've seen them before and never thought much about it, but this one guy was loading enough lumber to build a small house and I was thinking geez he better get tipped well. I know we've got some Home Depot employees here as well as heavy Home Depot shoppers. What's the etiquette on that? Do they allow tips or are they already compensated and it's just a value-added service? Just curious.

I dunno, tipping *should* be a thing where, if you feel that the person deserves a few extra bucks, compensate them for going above your expectations. If you feel that the guy deserves a little extra "thanks" for his time, hand him a few bucks, if he turns it away because HD doesn't let them take it, then at least you tried and showed him your appreciation.

Yeah, I've seen all the tipping debates on here before. I was just curious if they had an official policy. Personally, if I was getting a lot of stuff loaded up and the guys were helpful about it I'd at least try to tip them.

If you tip them and they keep the money they can be fired. They have to give it to the store manager so ti can be used for all employees. Stupidest thing ever. The good employees get jack.

I worked @ Home Depot for 3 years if youw anted to know :)

Oh, and I always kept any tip money I got. I got $20 for making a dowel rod look like a table leg for a customer that broke one. Gotta lovee using a radial arm saw to do turning :p

I consider it a "value added" service to encourage me to use thier store rather than the competition.

If they weren't loading my truck they would would be doing other work in the warehouse anyway. That is simply one of thier jobs. IMHO.

I say no tip. I don't tip maids in hotels or barbers either. I'm not a cheap bastid, just don't see the sense in it.
