Do you tip furniture delivery guys?

We are getting our nursery furniture delivered today. We paid for delivery ($160 I think) and they bring the furniture and do any assembly that is required.

Is a tip required? If so, how much?

Not usually. If the item is very bulky and the stairs are a bitch and they were careful not to ding anything and cleaned/covered the floors from the soil from their work shoes, then I'd tip like 10-20$ each

Kinda what I was thinking. It's one set of steps and only 2 pieces. We'll see how it goes.

No, but I sometimes offer them a pop or something as they go out. Same with internet installer people. When I got my fibre installed I offered a pop while he was installing, as it was a 4 hour job. (running from the pole, nid, then setting up the ONT etc...)

Pretty much this. If it's a PITA to deliver and they're careful to not ding up my house, I'm happy to give them a couple bucks. I'll usually offer a bottle of water or some iced tea or something as well.

Only tip if they go out of their way to help you. Above and beyond what they are required to do.

Go to the store and pickup your own damn furniture! :colbert:

And the award for least helpful post goes to...

This guy!

That isn't an option because it gets built and then shipped to the warehouse and then delivered. And would you suggest even if it was an option I have my 9 month pregnant wife help carry it up the stairs?

To the rest of you, thanks for the help.

Same concept as always - ABOVE AND BEYOND. If they move it around the way you want it or do anything super carefully and dispose of the boxes neatly, throw them a few bucks. If they come through in and out of your house like a hurricane then don't.

This better be a whole lot of furniture for that much delivery fee.

I tip all delivery people!!

Hell I usually tip the mailman......
I leave the money in the mailbox and its usually gone when I get home!!
Currently my tips are helping the Hispanic mailman put his 10 kids through college!!

FWIW when I got my elliptical delivered by two people, I tipped each $5. Didn't do anything special just moved it from their van to my basement.. like 20 yds

Yes. Around $5-$10 flat per person. Depends on weight. If it's a fridge, I may do $20 a pop.

It's heavy as shit and dangerous -- more so than other typical jobs that "require" tips.
