if you are referring to delivery, you should tip the guy, He's got a sh!tty job & making minimum wage...help him out a little. If you are picking up, no tip is necessary.

Maybe it's just me but Take Out != Delivery

Take Out = Carry Out

And, if I have a larger order (or the cashier is cute :D), I'll leave a tip...not as much as if I'd eaten in the restaurant but a decent amount.

What about a drive-thru? We have this place called Rita's Italian Ices and you drive through and they have this tip jar by the window. They only seem to hire very cute looking girls and the jar's always pretty full. :D

You can tip but it's not really necessary. A tip is really for the service you recieved from your waiter...if you are just picking up, you have not recieved any service so there's not much point in tipping.

If people are (like the 3 that voted YES) giving TIPS for take out...thats just making it bad in the future as people are expecting TIPS for doing absolutely nothing.

Our society are becoming "tip whore". I don't mind tipping at all for services but everyone is expecting tips these days.

It's not nothing. The person running the register usually boxes up the food, gets you napkins, utensils, etc. More than just ringing up the sale.

You should tip everyone. Your barber, garbage man, mailman, priest, bus driver (don't pretend like you have never taken public transportation), dentist, the video store guy who winks at you every time you rent porn, and even your local ASPCA workers. All of these people deserve tips. Don't be cheap, give 'em a little green and it will brighten up their day and yours.

true, but they automatically add it into the total here. took me 3 pick-ups to notice that. no wonder they were so nice.

I really liked *one* place that I'd go to for carry-out. For that place, I'd toss some change into their "tip" jug. However, for the other carry-out places, I've never left a tip. Maybe, this is one reason why I don't go to Starbucks anymore. They would always have the tip jar out there and I felt obligated to place tip money in their - even for a regular coffee.
