And no, you just don't tip on carry-out. Tipping is for providing a service, not for handing me the food I paid for. You want to pay your workers a living wage then charge enough so that you can afford to do so. I loathe the tipping jar at the counter or the tip line on the credit card receipt when I'm not being waited on. I'm not anti-tipping. I'm anti-tipping for services not provided. I do my job and don't stand around with my hand out expecting more money after I've completed the task.

Tip on pickup orders? Nah.

Curbside service, sometimes. If it's like raining & they're prompt. But literally all they're doing is walking a bag out to your car. And most places that have roadside no longer actually support it...I always end up having to go inside because no one is watching the parking camera.

It depends on the type of place I'm ordering take out. If it's a family run or small business, I always tip because they can't pay as well as chains when they are just starting up (higher food costs, things like accounting). The employees tend to be their children and other family helping the business and work really hard. They deserve more pay. I'll also if the employees aren't terrible, I'll give something to chains.

And if you taking food out of a restaurant that people normally sit in, you should always tip! Most places that I've worked in will not separate your takeout orders from your sit-ins.

If someone orders take-out from you - for some reason, you still get stuck tipping everyone out. (usually 3% - so you end up paying money to hand someone their order if they don't tip) In addition, the POS systems set up for sit-in service will force you to claim 9% of the sale. So in addition to paying money for tip out, you have to pay extra taxes too.
