Do you tip for curbside takeaway?

Just got back from picking up my dinner at outback from their curbside dinner. I didn't tip at all b/c I didnt see any need to. Why should I tip for just picking up a dinner? In resturants I leave tips based on the service and always of at least 15% if the service is good, just not quite sure about what to do for curbside takeaway.

Edit: For clarification, I walked in and got the meal myself.

Yes. Those people are "waiters" too. They may be depending on tips as part of their income.

Second, I despise curb side pickup. What sort of lazy ass bum are you that you can't park your car and go inside to pickup your takeout? I mean, jesus, you've got issues. Disgusting.

Ah! I was wondering this exact same thing! I put a few bucks in the last couple times I've done it. On one hand, all they do is walk 10 feet to your car, on the other hand they are providing you a service by bringing it out to you. But then places like Sonic and whatnot have drive-in service too, from the commercials I see - you don't tip there do you?

It's like pickup, but you just drive up to a specially-marked side of the building and when they see your car, they bring your food out to you. It's like a 10-foot delivery service. They have cameras or else just watch out the windows for you. This way you can avoid getting out of your car if the parking lot is full, waiting in a crowded restaurant, etc. It's a nice service, especially if the restaurant is popular or you're in a busy area.

Fixed.

Yeah, the last place I lived near Hartford was pretty busy and the curbside area was really the best place to park. I avoided driving around to find a far-off open parking space, walking all the way to the restaurant and waiting in line with a big group of people, picking up my food, and walking all the way back. Instead it's faster than drive-through fast food - drive up, they bring out your food, you pay and go. I can see it being kind of dumb if you're not in a really crowded area, but if you are in a crowded area or are really lazy then it's great

Is their food any good? I see the commercials on TV all the time but haven't found one near me...

I went in their "curbside pickup" door and picked up the meal myself.

yep. If I have to wait at the curb for 10 mins (after they told me it would be ready) no tip either. Actually, I'm a little flexible on that; if they come out to tell me it will be a few extra minutes then I'll still tip. It's about the level of service. If I have to go get it there is no tip since I'm basically getting no service.

In some situations, yeah. At my last position I had a mega-long 2 hour daily commute and it was so much nicer just to drop by the local Applebees after enjoying traffic, have them bring out the food, and then go home to watch a movie and eat with my wife.

Exactly! That makes a lot of sense. ATOT should write a book on proper fast food manners lol.

Yeah, Sonic is pretty good. I've grown to believe that they're the king of fast food burgers. Better than Whataburger or Steak & Shake. Plus they have great drinks like Ocean Water and Cherry Limeade.
