Do you tip carpet installers?

yes, another tip thread. get over it.

home depot is sending a few installers over to install carpet in 4 rooms. they are charging me $150 just to move furniture around. i ripped out all the carpet myself since they woulda charged another $150 for that.

so should i tip them at all for this? if so, how much? its about 500 sq ft total

wow they charged you for removal of old flooring was it glue down? i gave my guy 40 bucks but he removed the old carpet too. no furniture since my buddy and i took care of it a day earlier.

I did because they were very fast and clean, but I don't think it's necessary.

It was 2 guys, $20 apiece.

I would say it depends on the work they do. Like other guy said, if they do it fast and clean go for it.

I didn't...we paid about $4,000 to have 1,000 sq ft of carpet replaced including stairs and closets. We chose a premium carpet though so it definitely cost more. Install, removal of old carpet and padding, and moving off all the major items was included in the cost.

Heck no, they charge a fee to install your carpet. I had everything out of their way except for one large item and we moved in when needed.

I wouldn't unless they went above and beyond what they were supposed to. Since they're nickel and diming you for every part of the job, then I'd have to say no.

I remodeled a house recently. I didn't tip the carpet installer. I didn't tip the painters. They quoted me a price, and I agreed to it. I paid that price. I don't see what the problem is.

So what about at a restaurant?

So what about at a restaurant?

a restaurant you are paying for the price of the food on the menu not the service. you tip based upon the service.

tipping a contractor for the job he did is just stupid. if he wanted more money she should have had a higher price.

YES!! Tip them!!
I tipped them when they redid all the carpets and moved all the furniture!!
I think I tipped them $100 a person.
Of course they laid carpet over 6,000 square feet!!

It only too 30 of them 3 a week!!

So what about at a restaurant?

Unfortunately the government allows restaurants to pay their employees well below minimum wage, which requires us to tip them unless we think their service only deserves $3/hour.

If my carpet installer were going to charge me $10 to install 500 sq. ft. of carpet, then I'd give him a big fat tip too. Since he charged me $100 and did $100 worth of work, then I see no reason to pay him $120 for $100 worth of work. If he had weeded my garden as well, then I would've tipped him.
