Poll: do you think we'll see a muslim president in the next hundred years?

Should I be flattered that you think I'm going to live that long?

Didnt you hear? Now that Obama is president, there is no death.

Gotta agree with nakedfrog, I have to say having an I have no idea box in the poll leaves no right answer.

But we can take the message away from today's President Obama, who in MHO, won not on race or religion, and instead by being the person with the best ideas. And he put together a team who outworked, out hustled,
far more experienced politicians. And put together a less partisan message of national unity that fit a time of needed change.

Those kinds of abilities more fit the class of genius rather than the class of us more ordinary humans. And that is the problem with genius, its no respecter of wealth, race, social class, or anything else, its more something that you are born with like perfect pitch in a musician, a not so magical gift until its nurtured.

Given that Muslims are a low percentage of the US population, the chance the "stork" will bring such a birth in a US Muslim family is also low, but if it happens, then we could well see the creme rise to the top from that direction. I would expect we will have our first female President before, but many young people are now saying Yes I can instead of railing about the "establishment."

I highly doubt it, just not enough Muslims in the country.

But you never know, who would have thought a son of immigrants from India would end up the governor of Louisiana.

The son of immigrants from a nation loaded with corruption becomes the governor of state loaded with corruption.

Nobody saw that coming.

Don't you think it's a little early for you to start pimping Jindal, Pro-Jo?

We'd elect a muslim before an Atheist.

actually, we probably already have elected an atheist

If by probably you mean definitely then yes. Not a tough choice for an athiest politician to make.

1. Openly admit that there is no god, don't stand a chance at getting elected.
2. Lie, hold prayers, get votes.

We'll not see a President that doesn't "claim" a Christian belief in my lifetime - for me that's 55 years max - LOL.
What they're actual beliefs are is another story...

I'd tend to think that any Muslim who had enough intelligence and sense to be able to overcome Americans' somewhat rightful prejudice against Muslims enough to win the White House would have long-since chosen to abandon one of the world's most backwards and barbaric religions in favor of reason and Atheism or at least a different religion.

Why? You did not abandon your barbarous ignorance for anything else.

I'd happily vote for another religion, including a Muslim, for president, but think there's near-zero chance that a plurality of Americans will do so for a very long time, sadly.

They're still getting over irrelevancies people are born with (and aren't close yet on homosexuality), far from developing a reasonable understanding of beliefs people choose.

Who CARES? Separation of church and state, it shouldn't matter.

It shouldn't matter. And in the ideal case, the President would make sure that it didn't affect his decision making process.

However, in practice it DOES matter, because religion is so integrated into people that it clouds their decision making on a sub-conscious (if not conscious) level.

Not in the US at least until it is forced by a majority Muslim population however I think we will see a several new ones in Europe, perhaps even the dissolving of the British monarchy in our life time due to it.
